HBO has finally confirmed that the all powerful Game of Thrones (GoT) television program has a foreseeable end date. First airing all the way back in 2011, Game of Thrones has become a gigantic hit for HBO and has continued to push the idea that we are living through a television renaissance. With 26 Emmy wins and 106 corresponding nominations, GoT is transforming couch entertainment into something more reflective and assertive — even as the show is beginning to trip over its own baggage.

Still, this transformative show will be filming its final scenes by the end of Season 8. Well, maybe.

According to Entertainment Weekly:

“Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do”, Bloys said at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday. “Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”

To add insult to injury, Game of Thrones fans will have to do more with less during the last two seasons. Season 7 is currently battling nasty weather (storms, grey clouds, cold winds: you know, everything that winter is about) which is pushing the release until Summer 2017. Ouch.

Furthermore, Season 8, the final season, will only be six episodes, though that isn’t final — according to Entertainment Weekly, Bloys said the exact number of season eight episodes is not yet final.

An era is coming to a close. Will there be a spin-off series? What could it be about and how necessary is a whole new series? Let us know what you think in the comments below and don’t forget to check back in to The Nerd Stash for all of your movie, gaming, TV, and comic needs.
