Out of any series out there, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the first games you’d think of in terms of a tier list. If not, then really think about it. There are over 400 villagers and plenty of people fight to have certain ones on their island. Some players even go as far as kicking out other villagers that they like less just to make room for that special villager. Let’s take a look at The Nerd Stash’s tier list of ACNH villager types and see how some of the villagers stack up against one another.

We couldn’t list all 400+ ACNH villager types in a single tier list, so we rounded up the ones that we have the strongest feelings about. Like most tier lists, S-Tier stands for the tier of characters that players like the most. Then, the tier goes down to most disliked at D-Tier. Even though the villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons don’t have gameplay differences, there are still plenty of reasons to like or dislike villagers enough to tier them.

S-Tier

New Horizons S-Tier

In our S-Tier, we have Tex, Ribbot, Gayle, Lucky, Hopper, and Raymond. We’ll admit that there was a lot of personal opinion, going on here. However, Raymond is definitely a villager that players have played for hours just to find. We spent more time looking for classier villagers like Tex and Gayle in our playthrough. Of all of these, three of them are really there for more nostalgic reasons. Hopper, Ribbot, and Lucky have all appeared in every single Animal Crossing installment. From the beginning, we’ve always hoped that they would come and stay in our village, regardless of which one we were playing.

A-Tier

In our A-Tier for ACNH villager types, we have Rasher, Pietro, and Marlo. Rasher is another one that has been around since the very beginning. He even has that really cool, deep voice that pairs very nicely with his scars and stitches. We don’t know why he has these injuries, but it’s probably what makes him so cranky. Pietro was introduced in New Leaf and is themed like a colorful, Italian clown. Pietro is one of the more fun villagers that we always had in our town whenever we played the handheld game and still search for him whenever we start new saves in ACNH.

After New Horizons came out, we were keen on Marlo when he was introduced during the 2.0 free update. He’s themed after Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather films and his name is even a reference to the character’s on-screen actor, Marlon Brando. His catchphrase, “gabeesh,” is also a fun nod to the character.

Our B-Tier for Animal Crossing New Horizons villagers includes Coco, Marshal, Sprinkle, and Maple. We will be honest in saying that we put these villagers here because we don’t have any real feelings for or against them. Coco and Maple are the only two of these who have appeared in every single installment in the series. However, Maple’s boring appearance makes me skip over her most times when the time comes to recruit people for my town. Coco is just plain scary looking, which is strange that she’s classified as the only normal rabbit in the games. As for Sprinkle and Marshal, they’re both cute, but lack any real substance that makes us want them to stick around.

C-Tier

As we get lowest on the list, we reach the C-Tier. In this tier, we have Tad, Francine, and Nan. All three of these characters were present when both the original Nintendo 64 and expanded Gamecube versions were launched in Japan. Because of their history with the series, we would imagine that they would have a little more substance. However, we feel that these are probably the only legacy villagers who are either really bory or scary looking.

D-Tier

At the very bottom of our tier list for Animal Crossing New Horizons comes Knox, Stitches, Tucker, Ricky, and Violet. We are not fans of these villagers for both different and the same reasons. For starters, we think each of these villagers are ugly. We said it. We also think that their designs severely clash with most other villagers, making them just far less desirable. Of course, every villager is cute to someone, but these just don’t make the cut at all for us. Most of these villagers cam from either Wild World or City Folk and we’ll admit that we didn’t play too much of either of them.
