Swimming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t just a fun pastime to while away the hours. In fact, there are a couple of different reasons why you’ll want to take a dip in the sea surrounding your idyllic island. Most importantly, you’ll be able to catch sea creatures, like a Sea Cucumber or a Spider Crab, by diving near columns of bubbles. But, it’s also handy if you’re wanting to explore. So, if you’re wondering how to swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, here’s what you’ll need.

Off the bat, you won’t be able to enter the water and swim. To do so, you’ll need a Wetsuit. Thankfully, you can purchase a Horizontal-striped Wet Suit from Tom Nook’s shop for 3,000 Bells.

Once you’ve obtained a Wet Suit, go into your inventory by pressing the X button and then equip it by pressing the A button. Now, you’ll be able to swim in the sea by walking up to the water’s edge and pressing the A button. Nice!

Another way of acquiring a Wet Suit is by purchasing the Leaf-Print Wet Suit at Tom Nook’s Special Goods shop ATM for 3,000 Bells, though bear in mind, you’ll need to wait an in-game day for the package to be delivered. It’s exactly the same as the aforementioned swimming garb, but it comes with a snazzy print design.

Catching Sea Creatures is a cinch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Here’s a step-by-step explanation of what to do:

  • First, you’ll need to spot a column of bubbles surfacing the water.
  • Next, swim towards the area and press the A button to dive.
  • Sometimes, the animals will give chase and you may need to swim around and catch them. It’s definitely worth it, as they’re normally worth a lot more Bells than the static ones.
