Nintendo has revealed a slew of new games at the most recent Indie World Showcase. Different from your usual Nintendo Direct, the Indie World Showcase shows off some of the more niche indie franchises that don’t usually get a spotlight. Between new ports to the Nintendo Switch, wonderful-looking exclusives, and longstanding projects, Nintendo has a great Indie lineup coming this Holiday season. That said, here are some of the best games presented at the November Nintendo Indie World Showcase.
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
The Shantae series is making a triumphant return with an amazing-looking GameBoy-style game. Based on an unreleased Shantae sequel, the platformer looks like a very fun platformer with some unique mechanics. Additionally, the revival will include a 4-player battle mode for everyone to enjoy with friends. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution should be released sometime in 2024.
Core Keeper
The Indie classic game Core Keeper is a sandbox survival game that has been making waves since its Early Access launch in 2022. The November Nintendo Indie World Showcase has shown that it will be coming to the Switch when the game fully releases. Though this isn’t going to be a Switch exclusive, Core Keeper feels like a solid entry to the library.
On Your Tail
On Your Tail looks like an interesting take on an investigative simulation game. In the town of Borgo Marina, players can enjoy a holiday by playing minigames and interacting with the population. At the same time, players will also need to investigate a mysterious figure who has appeared in the peaceful town. On Your Tail will come to the Switch sometime in 2024.
Howl
Howl is a turn-based strategy game with an interesting art style, shown off in this November’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase. Unlike most tactical strategy games, this new Indie release has an interesting style and premise, tasking a deaf prophet with saving the world from a sound-based plague.
The Star Named EOS
The Star Named EOS is a new puzzle title where players are tasked with investigating the disappearance of their mother. Players will use a camera and photography to investigate their surroundings and solve puzzles. The Star Named EOS will be released sometime in spring 2024.
Backpack Hero
Next up for the November Nintendo Indie World Showcase, Backpack Hero is an interesting take on the roguelike genre. Starring a rat, players will search for tons of items and organize them in their inventory. Players can then use them in battle, depending on how they are organized. The game is on Switch after its initial Early Access on Steam.
Blade Chimera
Blade Chimera is an upcoming platformer-adventure title that takes players through a post-apocalyptic Cyberpunk world. Using your Lumina Sword, you can fight enemies and manipulate time itself. Blade Chimera will come to Switch sometime in 2024.
A Highland Song
A Highland Song takes players on a 2D platformer journey throughout the world of nature. This game focuses on showing players the freedom and exploration of nature, allowing them to explore multiple different paths. A Highland Song will find its way onto the Switch on December 5th, 2023.
Moonstone Island
Next, Moonstone Island is a new November Nintendo Indie World Showcase title that combines all the best elements of classic Indie games. This roguelike/simulation/monster-collecting/deck-building title tasks players with exploring islands to capture monsters and bring the resources back to a hometown. Here, players can meet villagers, farm, and craft. Moonstone Island will hit the Switch in the spring of 2024.
Death Trick: Double Blind
Finally, Death Trick: Double Blind is the second investigative game shown off at this November’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase. Taking place in a circus, this release follows the investigations of two detectives attempting to find a missing magician. Death Trick: Double Blind will come out sometime in 2024.
