Next Baldur’s Gate 3 Update Will “Fix Astarion’s Little Kisses”

Baldur’s Gate 3 is on many players’ Game of the Year lists thanks in part to its incredibly smoochable cast. Unfortunately, a recent patch did more harm than good to the game and Tav’s love life by breaking Astarion’s kiss animation. The result was both awkward and hilarious. Instead of the vampire spawn kissing Tav on the lips as intended, he instead gave the air above their forehead a peck. BG3 fans were understandably not impressed with this unintended nerfing of their love lives. Today brings good news, however, as the developer has announced that the next Baldur’s Gate 3 update will “Fix Astarion’s Little Kisses.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a deep RPG that follows its Dungeons and Dragons source material closely. That includes granting players incredible freedom to choose who they are and what they do. One of the most important choices involves which of your hot companions you want Tav to romance. Suave vampire spawn Astarion is an easy favorite for many. Unfortunately, an unforeseen bug introduced by Patach 4 caused significant lag in Astarion’s kiss animation, resulting in these oh-so-chaste and disappointing air pecks rather than the intended kiss.

In a recent Twitter post, Larian Studios announced that a fix to the recent kisstastrophe is on the way. It’s unclear exactly what else Update 5 will bring to the game when it releases later this week. At least players can rest easy knowing that undead romance is back on the table. Whether Update 5 will successfully tackle the stuttering and other performance issues that have been plaguing some players is another question. Given the developer’s track record for bug-squashing, there’s reason for hope. In the meantime, at least we can all get back to doing what Baldur’s Gate 3 players do best. No, not help Tieflings.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
