It’s been a tumultuous year for the team behind No Man’s Sky, as they went from the most anticipated game of 2016 to the most disappointing. Fans were outraged, not only by the game’s performance but by the lack of communication by creator Hello Games, who went silent on social media after consumer backlash (notably Twitter) – with the exception of errant finger pointing by Sean Murray.

After months of silence, the company announced the game’s first significant content patch earlier this week titled Foundation (Version 1.1). As the title would suggest, the free update focuses heavily on the building aspect of the game, alleviating a lot of convenience issues.

The Foundation update, which went live earlier today, adds base building, freighters, farming, options for creative and survival modes and a lot more. The three game modes will allow for more diversity in play style but more importantly will permit user to have access to multiple save files.

One of the most notable additions coupled with the update is the ability to teleport through portals from any space station back to your home base and then back to the space station you left at any time. This simple change will resolve the longstanding issues of players finding a favorite planet – usually home to specific important resources – but never being able to find it again, even after naming it, due to the convoluted system maps.

If you could have lived our lives over the last months, you'd know how meaningful this is.

Alongside the patch, Hello Games, and Sean Murray have begun tweeting again, with Murray even commenting on the notable lack of communication. “We hope you enjoy this first proper update. We didn’t want to talk about anything in it until it was 100% certain,” Murray tweeted.

The download for the update is 2.7GB, considerable large in comparison to the game installation requirement, with the digital version of No Man’s Sky actually  .1GB less. For more information on the patch, check out the company’s blog post, and be sure watch the trailer above!
