Fans of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet might be familiar with the Fighting-Ghost type Pokemon Annihilape. A brand new evolution from Gen IX, Annihilape is the evolved form of Primeape, a Fighting-type Pokemon whose line previously only had two stages. The addition of a new move added Annihilape into Scarlet & Violet, but Annihilape’s appearances in other Pokemon media have been sparse – until now. Pokemon Go has announced that Annihilape will be making its debut in a five-day Raging Battles event between January 19th and 24th.

Primeape is an old Pokemon, dating back to Gen II. Primeape’s evolutionary line got a refresh, however, with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in 2022. As the Pokemon franchise moved into Paldea, Primeape got a brand new move descriptively called Rage Fist. In order to evolve Primeape in Scarlet and Violet, Primeape has to use Rage Fist 20 times, at which point it’ll evolve into dual Fighting-Ghost type Annihilape.

However, the process for evolving Primeape in Pokemon Go is going to be slightly different from the mainstream games. In order for Pokemon Go players to evolve Primeape, they’ll need to defeat 30 Psychic or Ghost-types with Primeape as their buddy Pokemon during the Raging Battles event. The event will begin at 10am local on January 19th, and go until 8pm on January 24th. Team Go Rocket will be appearing at Gyms during the event to give players a better shot at Psychic-type battles.

Any Pokemon Go players that still need to find a Mankey will able to find them in 3-star Raids throughout the event. Mankeys will also be appearing in Field Research tasks or in the wild, alongside these Ghost and Fighting-type Pokemon:

  • Gligar
  • Lickitung
  • Machop
  • Sableye
  • Scraggy
  • Sawk
  • Throh

If you’re an Annihilape fan, make sure to mark your calendar for January 19th and get ready to go into battle with Primeape.
