2023 was one of the best years for movies across multiple genres to satisfy just about any audience member. Today, the 2024 Oscar nominations have been revealed. To no surprise, Christopher Nolan’s hit biopic Oppenheimer swept with 13 nominations, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie scored eight. The films to fill that gap were Poor Things with 11 and Killers of the Flower Moon with ten. Below, you can see what else was nominated and the specifics for the previously mentioned films.
Best Picture
This year, the Best Picture nominees have two special qualities. One, we have multiple films, mostly to entirely not at all in English, with The Zone of Interest (German and Polish), Past Lives (English and Korean), and Anatomy of a Fall (English, French, and German). The other is that we have the most women-directed films for the big award with Past Lives (Celine Song), Anatomy (Justine Triet), and Barbie (Gerwig).
- American Fiction
- Anatomy of a Fall
- Barbie
- The Holdovers
- Killers of the Flower Moon
- Maestro
- Oppenheimer
- Past Lives
- Poor Things
- The Zone of Interest
Best Actress
The 2024 Oscar nominations for Best Actress had few surprises, with the exception of Nyad‘s Annette Bening and the snub of Margot Robbie for Barbie. We also have Lily Gladstone as the first Native American person to be up for a best acting award at the Academy Awards.
- Annette Bening, Nyad
- Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon

Best Actor
We got a line of the best leading men of the year. Cillian Murphy gets a nod for being the lead in one of the year’s biggest films with Oppenheimer, Bradley Cooper did extra work as a director for Maestro, so it was fitting to see him get the nod here, and Colman Domingo is on a hot streak with The Color Purple and Rustin, the latter of which is what he received the nomination.
- Bradley Cooper, Maestro
- Colman Domingo, Rustin
- Paul Giamatti, The Holdovers
- Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer

- America Ferrera, Barbie
- Jodie Foster, Nyad

- Robert Downey Jr., Oppenheimer
- Ryan Gosling, Barbie
