This morning, Elden Ring dropped the first full-length trailer for its upcoming DLC, Shadows of the Erdtree. It certainly looks like a good time, and it has the FromSoft community whipped into a frenzy, but seeing the DLC has raised questions about the future of other FromSoftware games. Bloodborne was released in 2015 for the PS4, and unlike Demon’s Souls, it hasn’t received a PS5 facelift yet. Fans of this gore-soaked, plague-themed game are eager for more, however, and the Elden Ring DLC has sparked new hope among some fans that a remake is on the horizon – but is it true?
Hidetaka Miyazaki Talks Elden Ring DLC, Bloodborne PS5 Remake Possibilities
FromSoftware isn’t a stranger to remaking their games to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of gaming consoles. In 2018, they released Dark Souls: Remastered, a remake of the first Dark Souls game for the PS4,
There’s not a lot of talk about remakes going around FromSoft right now – presumably, they’re busy working on Shadows of the Erdtree, which boss Hidetaka Miyazaki calls their “largest expansion yet.” Still, in a recent interview, Miyazaki sat down to address the fans that are baying for blood – or rather, a Bloodborne remake for the PS5. When discussing whether or not a remake would be worth it for Bloodborne to make the leap to the latest console, he told Eurogamer the following:
“I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value. Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren’t able to render specific expressions – [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.”

Later on in the same interview, Miyazaki added that from a user’s perspective, modern hardware brings more accessibility to older games like Bloodborne by pulling in more players.
And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform.”

In the end, FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki wasn’t able to say anything specific about whether or not we’ll be seeing a Bloodborne PS5 remake anytime soon, but he also notably did not shut the idea down entirely. If a remake is coming, it likely won’t be for another few months, since Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC isn’t supposed to come out until June 21st, 2024 and FromSoft will almost certainly have their hands full until then.
