The Hyborian Age is a time of blood and steel. It should also be a time of fun when the Age of War – Chapter 4 reaches Conan Exiles. Funcom invited The Nerd Stash to a press event to lay out what players can expect from the survival game’s upcoming chapter. Whether you’ve been grinding away in service of Crom for years or plan on setting foot in the Exiled Lands for the first time, there’s reason to be excited. Chapter 4 is coming to Conan Exiles on April 2nd and will introduce some big changes. From fatalities and deeper Purge mechanics to QoL changes and a shiny new Battle Pass, it’s a good time to spill some blood in the sand.
The Sacred Hunt and Purge in Conan Exiles Chapter 4
Chapter 4 is the last in the Age of War in Conan Exiles. The new Sacred Hunt focuses on the beast god Jhebbal Sag, so it’s no surprise it kicks off with the player being ambushed in the night. After slaying their attacker, players will find a Flesh Map to guide them to the Sacred Hunt, culminating with a unique boss battle. Players will need to shed their armor, wearing nothing more than the warpaint of Jhebbal Sag, to lure out and take down their new foe. The Sacred Hunt won’t be a permanent fixture in the Exiled Lands, however. Events like this one will disappear and reappear later to make the game more dynamic.
The Purge system is also getting an upgrade. That’s good news if you’re eager to test your fortress against some tough new foes. After proclaiming your wealth, you can expect to see some new faces amongst the horde that comes to claim it. This includes a thief who can lockpick your base to let their friends inside. Deadliest of all, however, is the sorcerer who will appear in Level 9+ raids. The meteor storm he calls down will damage structures and threaten everything you’ve built until you take him out. These new elements might not make you give up your favorite mods, but they’re reasons to be hopeful.
Fatalities, Thralls, and QoL Changes
If you’ve longed for the gory finishers from Age of Conan, you’re in luck. Chapter 4 of the Age of War will bring fatalities to Conan Exiles. After dazing your enemy, you can now finish them off in style. Doing so also buffs you, so fatalities aren’t just for show. Most weapon types have unique finishers, though they can’t be used against non-human enemies or in PvP. It sounds like there are no plans to add additional fatalities, but Senior Content Manager Tor Egil suggested it was something the team could look at if player interest proved high enough.
The new Battle Pass includes six new Zingaran cosmetics along with other goodies, and progressing through the Battle Pass should now be easier than ever. Whether or not you grind the Battle Pass, Chapter 4 is also bringing some much-needed QoL improvements. Chief among these is revamped Thrall interactions, which include both a snappy radial wheel and menu. The goal is to make follower commands more responsive than ever before, and the early impressions look good. Combined with a new Quick Stack button and other inventory management options, the grind should be easier overall.
Palworld, Dune, and Beyond
Although Funcom would love to see Thralls operating the ballista and trebuchet, that mechanic wasn’t working in time for Chapter 4. Apparently, Thralls had a bad habit of shooting straight up into the air. Speaking of the team’s desire to keep improving Thralls, Egil spoke favorably of the interesting behavior of Pals in Palworld. Though they’re quite different, the connection makes sense. As Funcom continues to expand upon Thrall behavior, it also has its sights on the possibilities of Dune: Awakening. Between Conan’s new age and the flow of spice, Funcom fans have a lot to look forward to.
Conan Exiles is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
