Days of Our Lives fans have grown accustomed to seeing some of their favorite characters getting recast over the years. However, not all viewers love to see an unfamiliar face in a familiar role. Over the decades, many important characters have changed in looks. Salemites such as Chad DiMera, Jennifer Horton, EJ DiMera, Abigail Deveraux, and others have all had recasts. Now, yet another legacy character is set to go through a change as Tate Black will be getting a new actor in early April.
Soaps in Depth reports that actor Jamie Martin Mann has officially left the role of Tate, who is the son of iconic Days of Our Lives characters Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) and Theresa Donovan (Emily O’Brien). However, Mann was forced to leave the soap opera. Instead, he opted to leave the show in order to return to college and continue his education. “We wish him well on his college adventure,” the show posted of Mann’s departure.
Days of Our Lives Recasts the Role of Tate Black
Stepping into the shoes of the young Salem bad boy will be Leo Howard. The actor has been seen in several projects such as The 100, Santa Clarita Diet, Legacies, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Sadly, fans will miss Mann on the sudser. “That is a huge blow,” one fan wrote. “Going to miss the real Tate,” another said. “He looks too old to play the part,” a third stated.
Of course, others are excited for the fresh face. “Welcome to Salem,” one person commented. “He looks like he could be Brady and Theresa’s son,” another encouraged. Meanwhile, Howard’s on-screen parents, Martsolf and O’Brien can obviously help him adjust. O’Brien recently moved from the role of Gwen to the role of Theresa, which was previously held by Jen Lilley. Meanwhile, Martsolf took over the role of Brady from Kyle Lowder many years ago.
“I know a little bit about taking over a character,” Eric Martsolf told Soap Opera Digest. “So I’ve had some long chats with [Leo], and it didn’t take him long to fly. He’s actually very seasoned. He’s not fresh off the tree.”
Days of Our Lives fans will see the new Tate Black very soon. Although recasts are often hated on in the soap community, it seems that Leo Howard has plenty of help to adjust.
