This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information.

It seems that Bungie is throwing a monkey wrench into their 10-year plan for the Destiny franchise, as they confirmed that you won’t be able to carry over weapons and gear in the sequel. Oh but don’t worry, your character’s appearance will stay the same.

While it’s not entirely surprising to any fan that stuck with Destiny through the Vanilla, as rumors have circulated for ages that the company wants a fresh new start on the sequel. It does, however, contradict their previous statement that the series would be a long term investment for players, not just rehashes of the same game every year.

“Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more,” Bungie said on their blog today. “This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1.”

The blog post does state that they understand the attachment players have formed with their characters, hence the ability to at least carry them over. But it’s unfortunate that they cite stale gameplay in the current game – which still has an active player base almost three years later – as a means for not transferring over inventory you worked just as hard for because you knew it you earned it.

I’ll miss you Gjallarhorn, Black Spindle, SUROS Regime and oh so many more

Bungie did say that there will be features that veteran Destiny players will earn in the sequel that will distinguish them from the rest, though like the character personalization it will only affect aesthetics.
