If you have any hope of getting close enough to the hoop in Roblox Highschool Hoops, you need to learn to dribble. It’s not enough to turn left or right; you have to master the little techniques. Otherwise, other players can easily swipe the ball before you can make a shot. Before you learn to dribble in Highschool Hoops, consider using a controller. Using a keyboard is possible, but there’s more of a learning curve.
Highschool Hoops Guide: How to Dribble Like a Pro
The Step Back and Double Step Back
The Step Back dribble move in Highschool Hoops will honestly be one of your main moves, given its versatility. Not only is it great for defense, but it’s also perfect for setting up other moves, like stepping back into a three-point shot. It creates a nice bit of distance, about an arm’s length away, between you and whoever’s playing defense. You also switch the ball to your other hand.
To perform the Step Back on keyboard and controller:
- Flick the right joystick down once.
- Press the X key.
One more thing: there’s also the Double Step Back maneuver. It’s down by doubling the movement; for example, flicking the left joystick down twice or press the X key twice.
Hesi and Spin Moves
Out of all the dribble techniques in Roblox Highschool Hoops, the Hesi is definitely the least useful. All you do is switch the ball from one hand to the other, or depending on which ball the hand is in, you’ll just step in that direction. I can see it being used for sidestepping, but why bother when you have spin moves and the Step Back?
My opinion aside, to perform the Hesi in the game:
- Press Z to Hesi and dribble to the left; press C to Hesi and dribble to the right
- Flick the right joystick once to the left or right.
Much like the Step Back and Double Step Back, you can double up on the Hesi move to perform a new dribble: the Spin Move. Just keep in mind you only spin in the direction you aren’t dribbling the ball with. For example, you can’t spin left if you’re dripping with your left hand.
Hop Step
The Hop Step is a little tricky; it took me a good 10 minutes to get the maneuver down, but when you do, it’s an awesome move to use. It’s kind of like a more aggressive Hesi. Say you’ve got someone playing defense. Rather than sidestep them, the Hop Step makes you hop in your desired direction.
To perform the Hop Step in-game:
- Sprint towards the hoop, then press the F key while you’re turning towards the direction you want to hop.
- On controller, sprint towards the hoop, then click the right analog stick.
The great part about the Hop Step is that it immediately sets you up for a combo, whether you want to follow up with a dunk or make a shot.
