Harrison Ford is taking his first steps as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The iconic actor, beloved for his roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, is taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross. Here’s how the legend stepped into the role.
Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross is a character who has appeared in five different MCU movies thus far. An antagonist that particularly likes pressing The Hulk’s buttons, the character’s footprint in the MCU is only growing. Originally played by William Hurt, Ford is taking on the character after the actor’s passing in 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. He spoke about the move at San Diego Comic Con as clips from Captain America: Brave New World were shared. The film will reportedly be in theaters Feb. 14, 2025.
Harrison Ford’s Character Is a U.S. President
Ford’s Thaddeus Ross (a.k.a Red Hulk) will be a newly-elected U.S. president in the 2025 film. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will do his best to protect, but as usual, things go awry. Captain America will then be faced with discovering “the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.” Speaking about his role in the film, Ford says he’s “proud” to be part of the MCU.
This is a character that’s based on a lot of history, developed with Bill [William Hurt] who played the character previously, but now I am Thaddeus and I am delighted and proud to become a member of the Marvel Universe. I have been watching fantastic actors having a good time… and I wanted a piece of the action. Fantastic! Marvelous, even.

The appearance was a huge surprise to the many who are familiar with Ford as a popular figure. Rumors that the actor isn’t a fan of conventions go way back. He reportedly prefers more intimate fan interactions and finds the events to be overwhelming. This change, as he enters the MCU, is a testament to the magic of Marvel and how it’s delivered for fans time and time again over the years. Surely, the hype for Captain America: Brave New World is at an all-time high as he steps into the role.
