Kate Upton was praised for her old-school elegance as she went plunging in a gorgeous black gown, but the 2014 photos nonetheless saw the Sports Illustrated Swim star shamed. When red carpet photos of Kate in her eye-popping number were shared by The Daily Mail that year, users celebrated the 31-year-old’s curves, but many also body-shamed her.
Stepping out in style for the premiere of The Other Woman movie she starred in, Kate was described as having a bit of a “struggle” by The Daily Mail. The model’s ample assets were somewhat barely contained, although Kate pulled her look off without a hitch.
Kate Upton Turns Heads With Glam Style
Photographed inside her vehicle ahead of her red carpet moment, Kate did, indeed, appear to be a little out of her depth as she went tight in a low-cut black dress with cap sleeves and a midi length.
Rocking rich fabrics and with chic knotted twists on her straps, the mom of one wowed in tan high heels, looking every inch the glam queen but definitely appearing less than camera-ready in the car photos. Wearing her light locks swept up into a chignon bun, Kate showed off her good looks as well as her figure, keeping glam with statement diamond earrings, plus a dark manicure.
Flashing hints of her legs as she channeled retro vibes in her waist-cinched number, Kate reminded the cameras why she’s in the modeling industry, although it looks like even the models aren’t immune to body-shaming.
Cruel Comments Suggesting She’s Too Big
A nasty remark that gained 70 likes appeared to suggest that Kate had gotten too large. “Kate’s a cheeseburger away from becoming a plus-sized model,” the user wrote.
Opting out of mentioning the star’s figure, but shading her beyond-gorgeous look, another said: “Ms Upton looks old because she is wearing old, tired, and out-of-fashion dresses.”
Kate was even referred to as “chubby” by one fan. In 2016, Kate had revealed that she’d actually been told she was too big for modeling, even stating that she’d put herself on a diet to lose weight.
“At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn’t realistic — that this is just the shape of my body,” she shared.
Back in 2012, the wife to MLB star Justin Verlander had even disclosed that “It was hard when I was first in the industry and people were like: “No, you are fat.”‘
In 2024, Kate is more popular than ever, with May seeing her return to SI Swim to front the magazine amid its 60th anniversary celebrations.
