Henry Winkler, now 78, has played many lovable roles on TV and in film. However, most of his fans will never forget him as Arthur ‘The Fonz‘ Fonzerelli on Happy Days. Winkler starred as Fonzie from 1974-1984 as one of the coolest guys on television. Now, 40 years later, Henry has many roles under his belt. However, his favorite role these days is as grandpa to his six grandchildren.
During a recent interview with People magazine, Henry Winkler spoke about his life post-Fonzie. The TV icon reveals that he loves spending time with his grandchildren. He reveals his greatest joys are his “six and three-quarters grandchildren,” India, Ace, Lulu, Jules, Gus, Francis Joan, and one on the way.
So, what is it like being The Fonz‘s grandchild? The proud father of three stated, “It is different, completely different than being a parent, but it is filled with the same emotion.” Henry Winkler has a lot of years of wisdom when it comes to dealing with children.
But Henry admits he is a stickler regarding the rules and the grandchildren visiting his home. “We now have six and three-quarters grandchildren. Every one of them is different. You have to approach each one completely differently.” However, he admits that there are only a few rules, and they are simple enough.
“Now the rules in the house, and there are a few, only a few, are the same,” he says. “When the youngest granddaughter is sleeping, there is no fighting, there is no yelling. They are in charge of their friends to keep it down.“
Last but not least, Winkler says, “No matter what age they are, from 14 to 7, they have to clear their dish.”
There Is One Thing Henry Winkler Only Does For His Grandkids
Henry Winkler comes across during the interview as a sweet grandpa who adores his grandchildren. In 2023 Henry admitted on The Jennifer Hudson Show there is one thing that he will only do for his grandchildren.
He says he will only appear on TikTok when one of his grandchildren asks him to do a dance video with them. Otherwise, he would never use social media platforms. “I’m only on TikTok with my grandkids,” the actor told Hudson. “My oldest granddaughter, India, said, ‘Papa, you have to make a TikTok.’ So I think I’ve made 7 or 8, but only, mostly, with them,” he confirmed.
Henry Winkler also reveals that he loves writing children’s stories in his free time. He stated that he had just finished the latest installment of his children’s series, “Detective Duck.” Regarding Happy Days, Henry Winkler still loves talking about the show.
Last month, Henry Winkler appeared with former Happy Days co-stars Donny Most (Ralph Malph) and Anson Williams (Potsie Weber) in Wisconsin for the Iola Car Show, where they reminisced with fans about their favorite memories.
So Henry Winkler has a lot to keep him busy these days, and despite no longer playing The Fonz, he has proven to his grandchildren that when it comes to being cool, he’s still got it, and it seems like they would all agree.
