Dying Light made its Gamescom appearance known with the official worldwide announcement of Dying Light: The Beast, a new standalone adventure. You read that correctly: players who have never played a Dying Light game or don’t have access to the first two can play this game without issue. The trailer gave a glimpse of what players can expect: that traditional zombie-destroying goodness that Dying Light has come to be known for. Dying Light is a great reason to be excited for Gamescom!

The premise details are a bit muddy, but it seems to follow the protagonist from the first game, Kyle Crane, as he ventures on a new zombie journey. The difference between his previous adventure and this one is that his expertise takes him to the woods, where a beast of unprecedented power seems to be lurking. The gore and bloodshed left behind by the monster is unlike anything we might have seen before, and the feeling of horror feels far more prevalent here.

The trailer showcases Kyle with what seems to be a military reconnaissance effort that is unable to deal with the threat at hand. It might be up to Kyle to isolate and neutralize the threat with his parkour skills and ability to craft intense weapons. With access to various new weapons and vehicles, players will enjoy a new chapter in the first-person zombie story that feels inspired by the Predator movie series.

The game trailer ends by acknowledging that the game will be playable on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and PlayStation and Xbox. However, there is no official release date or even a window. Hopefully, we can expect to hear more about Dying Light: The Beast as the year continues, but it’s looking like a late 2024 release or at some point in 2025.
