Having a beginner’s survival guide for Monkey Raft can really blunt the learning experience. The game’s mechanics aren’t exactly spelled out on Roblox; in fact, the lack of information is what inspired this guide. There are multiple mechanics at play here, but if you’ve put any time into games like Minecraft or the survival genre in general, it’s not all that different in execution. That said, Monkey Raft has its own quirks for surviving.
Crafting Items in Monkey Raft
At the start of a match in Monkey Raft, the first thing you want to do is locate your Crafting Table. It should be nearby. I cannot stress how important it is to keep tabs on its location. You need it to craft!
To start crafting, interact with the Crafting Table by pressing the F key:
- Choose an item you want to craft. In the info box is the required crafting material.
- Find the crafting material, then interact with the Crafting Table while holding the material.
- Select the item you want to craft, then select the Craft button.
In the beginning, you’ll be pretty limited in what you can craft, but as you raise your Intelligence, Dexterity, and Strength. For example, crafting a Bow requires level 3 Dexterity.
As to where you can get crafting materials, it’s a lot like Minecraft. If you see a tree, punch it! Enough punches will net you sticks or logs. You’ll find rock veins too, which break down into materials like flint.
Your Health and Hunger Meter
People have to eat, and monkeys do too. You have both a health meter and hunger meter, and the latter can affect the former. If you were to refrain from eating, you’ll lose health until you’re dead. Both meters are in the top-right corner.
There are a variety of foods in Monkey Raft, like fruit and meat. Shaking trees will net you fruit while killing animals will get you meat.
Eating fruits and whatnot can also grant buffs, as well as healing. Cooling Fruit, for example, grants invulnerability to fire, while Medicine Fruit acts as a healing potion.
Being a Monkey Has Its Benefits
You’re a monkey. You have a tail, and it isn’t just there to be cute. Not only can you carry items with your hands, but another with your tail. The cool part is that you can quickly swap between the two by pressing the Q key.
For that reason, I always carry a weapon with my tail and leave my hands free for valuable items. However, your tail has limits. You can’t carry big items like a Crafting Table or raft parts.
Another monkey-only trait is the ability to swing vines. If you see any, take a look around for cliffs and mountains. You might find resources or chests.
Building a Raft to Evolve
Lastly, the goal of Monkey Rift: surviving long enough to evolve. When you do, you’ll improve both your stats and more advanced technology to craft. To do that, you need to build a raft, bring suitable gear, and sail for the main island.
In the nearby ocean is your tiny raft, which you can improve by attaching raft pieces. They’re scattered all over the islands. Grab a piece using the E key, carry it over to your raft, and attach it by left-clicking. You can place items down on your raft, like storage and your Crafting Table, too.
When you’re satisfied with your naval vessel, set sail for the marker on your screen. Be careful of the fast currents, rocks, and coral. Those can hurt your boat! If you manage to reach the island, touching the DNA strand will end the round.
