The Spiritborn class quest is a pretty slow burn in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, mainly due to the fact that you’re on a spiritual hunt and have to solve puzzles, like with the ritual braziers and the totems. Tarka sort of tells you what to do, but if you’re like me, it probably went over your head (and for good reason). Luckily, you’ll encounter this head-scratcher near the end of the class quest, so you can at least relax knowing it’ll be over soon!
How to Complete Ritual Brazier Puzzle in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
The ritual brazier puzzle in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred is all about emotes. On PC, that’s the E key by default, whereas on consoles, you open the emote wheel by pressing Up on the D-pad.
Now, you’ll see a radial menu, but you can also access more by the buttons labeled to the left and right. For example, on PS5, you cycle through using L1 and R1. If at any point you can’t find the emote, open the radial menu once again and select the Customize option. You can bind specific emotes to the emote wheel.
With that said, the trick to the puzzle is to first wait for Tarka to say his piece, light the brazier and give you the command, then use specific emotes.
At the first ritual brazier, you need to ask for help from the spirits. Tarka means that literally. So, open the emote wheel and use the ‘Help’ emote.
You aren’t out of the woods just yet! Fight your way through to the beast’s lair, deeper into the dungeon. It may appear here and there, but you can keep going. You’ll come to a small room, where you’ll go round one with the spirit beast.
After its defeat, Tarka will appear one last time, just outside the second spirit barrier. Wait for him to finish, then open the emote wheel and use the ‘Thanks’ emote.
Did you forget you had emotes, too? I know I did. That’s why the ritual brazier puzzle had me a bit stumped in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred. I always forget the emote wheel exists!
