Rebel Wolves, a Polish studio run by former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Rebel Wolves, just confirmed that its debut game will be published by Bandai Namco. The new game being developed by the newly formed studio is titled The Dawnwalker Saga and will be a story-driven, action RPG set in a new fantasy world based on medieval Europe. Not too dissimilar from The Witcher series, it is being targeted at mature audiences and will be made using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
CD Projekt Red also decided to jump ship from the RED Engine and switch all its future projects, which include multiple Witcher games and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, to Unreal Engine 5 as well. This will let the developer streamline the development process, and more importantly, shorten the onboarding period when hiring new developers.
The Dawnwalker Saga will be developed by Rebel Wolves and published by Bandai Namco, mainly a Japanese publisher and developer, and will be available both digitally and physically on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz joined Rebel Wolves in January as the creative director after spending over 12 years at CD Projekt Red. In this time he was the lead quest designer on The Witcher 3, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine. He was also the quest director for Cyberpunk 2077 and will be transferring those skills to The Dawnwalker Saga.
The new game, and possibly a franchise, seems to borrow a lot from the Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski. It has a fairly similar setting to the recognizable series, but will likely have a lot of other things that set it apart. So far, we have not seen any gameplay and don’t have the release window either. But considering it is being planned for current generation consoles, it should be ready for release within the next 3 years.
