It’s a fairly common trope for studios to build video games around real-life war stories, but not many of them would choose an ongoing conflict as the setting. Hence, Grizzly Games Limited is making quite a bold move by creating a video game about the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War or the Russian invasion of Ukraine which escalated in 2022.
Grizzly Games Limited posted the announcement on the PlayStation Store with a game titled Ukraine Warfront – Battle Lines. It has no release date yet and also no image apart from the banner art.
According to Grizzly Games Limited’s description, Ukraine Warfront – Battle Lines will plunge players into the reality of conflict in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Apparently, the game will also feature strategic gameplay with a gripping narrative. At the same time, it will also navigate the conflict through the eyes of civilians and soldiers alike.
It’s something akin to a strategic RPG game or perhaps even a simulation similar to This War of Mine. Additionally, the game will have a morality system and promises to feature “Multiple Endings” based on your choices and decisions in the game’s storyline. It’s not clear whether those endings will also simulate or predict the end of the Russo-Ukrainian War or not.
In any case, Ukraine Warfront – Battle Lines isn’t the first game under Grizzly Games Limited’s portfolio. The Germany-based game developer studio has released other popular titles prior such as Thronefall, Islanders, and Superflight. They are also a small studio with only three developers.
Most of their games have been simple, casual, or minimalistic yet challenging. You can thus expect Ukraine Warfront – Battle Lines to fall under the same mold. Still, being announced first on the PlayStation platform could be indicative of Ukraine Warfront – Battle Lines‘ more ambitious take.
