With the release of Prince Harry’s Polo and Meghan Markle’s upcoming lifestyle show on Netflix, the Sussexes have been at the grind to build their brand and, hopefully, public image. Unfortunately, the days of a possible comeback are over for the Duke and Duchess, as “people are just not interested in them, but they’re interested in reading about their demise.”
While some still hold a “big fondness” for Prince Harry, “people really have a very, very low opinion of the Sussexes.”Speaking with Fox News Digital, royal expert Ingrid Seward states that the core problem is Meghan. “At the moment, people in the U.K. simply don’t like her.”
“In the U.K., they are really not liked, especially Meghan. People see her as a girl [who] took her husband away from his family, and she’s a girl [who] abandoned her own family. Not all of it, obviously not, but her father. And now, she’spersuaded Harry to abandon his father, and he dissed his own family in his autobiography. He didn’t have to do that.”
“He’s totally manipulated by his wife,” Seward continues, and although things “could all change” someday, people are only focused “about the bad things they do.” Royal commenter Kinsey Schofield tells the outlet that Meghan Markle lacks “an authentic personality,” meaning that, even without Harry, it is almost impossible for her to “ever win over the U.K. public again” on her own. “Meghan will ever be as popular as she once was, and she only has herself to blame,” Schofield concludes.
‘Harry Gave up Everything; Meghan Gave up Nothing’
Regardless of whether Meghan Markle ever manages to win over a decent following, users on Reddit believe the situation is a win-win for her, irrespective of the outcome. “Harry gave up everything. Meghan gave up nothing. No matter what happens, Markle won’t be at a disadvantage.” She gets to live “in a $14 million mansion and is slathered in jewelry and haute couture.” On the other hand, Prince Harry is “separated from his country and family and lost his titles and patronages, his security, his family and friends, and his peace of mind.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Prince Harry is blameless. Many commenters feel Meghan is simply enabling Harry’s rebellious behavior instead of manipulating him to do her bidding:
“I’m so tired of Harry playing the victim. He fell right into MM’s manipulation scheme. She was looking for a wealthy Brit and found a very vulnerable one to control. When he moved here, I recall him saying, “Just call me Harry,” yet they make their money off the titles. Look how many people in MM wheel well she has forgotten or friendships were severed, with the biggest ones being both sides of their families.”
This isn’t to say the Duchess of Sussex doesn’t have a strong influence over what her husband chooses to do. But it is very clear that Prince Harry is playing right into her hand, giving her everything she’s ever wanted while his image is drug through the mud with hers.
That said, the two still hold the advantage regarding public attention. People might despise Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but they are keeping a close eye on what the Sussexes are up to, even if it’s just to criticize them. After all, there’s still glory and money to be earned from substantial infamy, and the Spare Prince and his wife seem to be taking advantage of what they’ve got.
