The Los Angeles fires have taken multiple lives over the past few days. According to NBC News, at least 11 people have died from the horrific disaster. However, the exact number of deaths is unknown since the fires continue to spread across California. Unfortunately, one of the victims happened to be Jennifer Garner‘s friend. During a recent interview, the actress spoke about the loss while volunteering to feed evacuees.
Jennifer Garner’s Friend Dies In Los Angeles Fires
Anchor Katy Tur was reporting from a Los Angeles neighborhood when she ran into Jennifer Garner and World Central Kitchen’s Chef José Andrés. The pair was in the area to help feed victims of the Los Angeles fires. Garner said she was inspired to act since she has lived around the Pacific Palisades for 25 years. “I think all of us want to get our hands working somehow to be helpful,” she said.
The destruction of the Los Angeles fires has been a personal tragedy for Garner. Apart from losing her family church, the star lost one of her neighbors who went to that church. “I did lose a friend, and for our church, it’s really tender so I don’t feel like we should talk about it yet,” Garner said while holding back tears. “I did lose a friend. She didn’t get out in time.”
Garner also expressed sympathy for the rest of her community. “My heart bleeds for my friends,” she added. “I could just write out a list of 100 friends who lost their homes.”
Since so many people are suffering from the Los Angeles fires, Jennifer Garner revealed she’s been feeling survivor’s guilt since her home has been left unscathed. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, the 13 Going On 30 actress decided to channel her emotions into giving back to her community. Garner said that so many other people are volunteering their time to help out as well.
Seeing her community come together amid such an unimaginable tragedy has shown Garner that there is still so much “love” and “hope” in the world. “The people are strong and the sense of community is strong,” she said. “We will look after each other and that is still here. That is stronger than ever.”
Jennifer Garner is just one of the many celebrities lending a hand to victims of the Los Angeles fires. Stars like Paris Hilton, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kylie Jenner have all pledged to make donations over the past week.
