While COVID was a horrible memory for countless people, some, like Ben Stiller, managed to rekindle their love amid the pandemic. In this day and age, divorce is quite a common practice, so staying with your partner for many years is quite a feat. However, the Zoolander star still managed to make things work out between him and his wife, Christine Taylor, even if they did have a four-year fallout.
Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor were in quite a rush to get married back in 2000. He met The Wedding Singer actress in 1999, and after knowing each other for only six months, the two lovebirds got engaged and married in 2000. However, the two eventually separated in 2017 due to needing space from each other to reevaluate their relationship.
In an interview with The New York Times, Ben Stiller spoke about the reason why Christine Taylor and he mutually left each other: “When we separated, it was just having space to see what our relationship was, what my life felt like when we weren’t in that relationship, how much I loved our family unit.” As the proverb goes, “absence makes the heart grow fonder,” and the same became true for Ben and his love for Christine.
Even during their separation, the Night at the Museum actor never lost his love for his ex. “In my mind, I never didn’t want us to be together,” he remarked, indicating that he always saw Christine as ‘the one’ for him. “I don’t know where Christine was; you’d have to ask her,” he continued, “but COVID put us all together in the same house.”
It Took a Whole Year Before the Two ‘Got Back Together’
However, despite COVID forcing the two to be with one another all the time, the two didn’t actually “get back together” until an entire year had passed during the 2020 pandemic. “It was almost a year of living in the same house before we were actually together,” Stiller recalled. “But I’m so grateful for it, and I think not that many people do come back together when they separate.”
Unfortunately, what he commented about people not having it in them to return after a falling-out or divorce is very accurate. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck had an ongoing divorce until its finalization this month, and people are still talking about Kim Kardashian and her poor relationship with Kanye West despite sharing several kids together. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, along with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, are just two of the many high-profile celebrities who have never gotten back with each other.
Luckily for Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, this was not the case. Similar to Ben Affleck and his relationship with Jennifer Garner, Ben and Christine have “always stayed a family unit and always continued to do things together.” The quarantine during COVID naturally gave them plenty of time to talk with “no other distractions.” As a result, the two were able to get past their differences and repair their broken marriage.
