Day One in Office and Trump Declares a National Energy Emergency: ‘Hope You Trump Folks Enjoy the Coming Storms’

I hope he knows what he’s doing

There’s nothing worse than walking into your first day on the job and having to declare that everything is actually not fine; it’s on fire. Just after Donald Trump took office on January 20, 2025, he made a series of announcements about the country’s future. Unfortunately, one of these announcements focused on a national energy emergency honing in on oil and gas production in an effort to stop inflation from rising further. He blamed the rising costs of general goods on the Biden Administration, noting that it was done on purpose.

President Trump says he is declaring "a national energy emergency" on his first day in office, citing energy prices as a cause of inflation.

"We will drill, baby, drill," he says.

What’s really interesting is that Trump has long opposed the idea of clean and electrical energy, making his announcement counterintuitive. See, traditional gas and oil production within the country only aids in creating higher prices for general goods as taxpayer dollars will be used towards developing new pipelines in protected areas that have the potential to not generate revenue while vastly destroying the environment in which they are built.

“The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices. And that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill.”

Many commenters Twitter/X focused on how previous implementations of the very same tactics caused several issues for the country. If there’s anything I’ve come to learn from presidential speeches is to focus on what promises are actually genuine.

“The US HAS NEVER PUMPED SO MUCH PETROL under the Biden Administation – an administration that also acknowledges that climate change is real and green renewable energy is the future…but hope you Trump folks enjoy the coming storms, the suffocating heat and all the other climate catastrophes brought on by climate change.”

Other commenters replied to this very comment, varying from those who are on board with the idea to those providing their own experience with pipelines where they currently live. Unfortunately, likely, these comments will never be seen by those directly in charge of implementing these new oil-digging procedures.

President Donald Trump officially began his term on Monday, January 20, 2025, where he made several announcements concerning the new implementation of various legal processes. One such process was also to put an end to the electric vehicle mandate, meant to help reduce carbon emissions provided by the fuels emitted from a gasoline car’s tailpipe. Hopefully, we will see other efforts to try and implement global warming precautions, but it seems to be less and less likely.
