JK Rowling is speaking out after Donald Trump signed an executive order that tackles transgender rights. The famed author couldn’t help but point fingers at the Left. She claimed their “sex-is-a-social-construct bubble” is responsible for the new way of things.
On Monday, Donald Trump issued an order proclaiming that the U.S. government will recognize only two sexes—male and female. Following the bold move, the Harry Potter author took to X to analyze the situation. “A noisy part of the left still refuses to step outside their sex-is-a-social-construct bubble and acknowledge that their embrace of gender identity ideology has been a calamity,” she wrote.
“They were warned the right was capitalizing on their betrayal of women and girls. They didn’t listen.”
Rowling further noted Trump’s threat against woke gender ideologies might have been what delivered the White House to him. “He’s chosen to make moves to quash gender ideology on his first day, while the left remains in thrall to it,” she concluded. Despite what seems like a vote of confidence for Trump’s policy, Rowling didn’t publicly support the Republican.
The famed author is one of the vocal critics of the transgender movement and has often gotten in hot water on social media for her views. However, Rowling insists she isn’t transphobic.
All About Donald Trump’s Gender Executive Order
During his first office hours on Monday, Donald Trump signed the order to address “woke” gender ideologies he heavily criticized during his campaign. An incoming White House official said of the policy:
“What we’re doing today is defining that it is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes: male and female. These are sexes that are not changeable, and they are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
The order requires that the federal government use the term “sex” instead of “gender.” It also prevents people from changing their sex on US passports. The Biden administration previously allowed U.S. citizens to select the gender-neutral “X” as a marker on their passports. NBC News reports that a page on the State Department website that previously included instructions on updating passport gender markers is no longer accessible.
The policy further instructs the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and other agencies “to ensure that official government documents, including passports and visas, reflect sex accurately.” In addition, it will prevent taxpayer funds from being used for gender-transition health care.
The issued gender order tackles many of Trump’s campaign promises related to transgender rights. Although he vowed to end the participation of transgender athletes in female sports, the order didn’t address it.
