Grimes is distancing herself from her ex-boyfriend Elon Musk as he receives backlash for his “Nazi salute” at Donald Trump’s inauguration. The singer set the record straight about having any involvement with Nazism, given that she shares three kids with the tech billionaire.
On Tuesday, Grimes took to X to address her baby daddy’s wrongs after a fan threatened to “sacrifice my Grimes follow.” Clapping back at the criticism, the Canadian artist acknowledged the fan’s concern before defending herself.
“It is unhealthy that people are this upset when I have not even been online yet today and am only just learning about this controversy now.”
Lamenting how overzealous fans made her guilty for the Tesla CEO’s actions, the Genesis artist penned, “It’s absurd that someone can be this cancelled for something their ex did before they even heard it happened. I am not him.” Grimes, who shares three kids with the tech mogul, declared that she won’t “make a statement” whenever Musk does something controversial. Instead, she will only make a positive contribution.
Defending her decision to stay out of Musk’s controversies, the 36-year-old said she chose her “children’s wellbeing” instead. However, when a fan urged her to clear the air for those who associate her views with Musk’s, Grimes replied:
“I’m happy to denounce Nazism—and the far alt right. Would that help clear things up?”
She explained that she was catching a flight and it might not have wifi. However, Grimes assured her fans of plans to “approach things diplomatically” once she understands the situation better.
Elon Musk Slams Nazi Salute Backlash As ‘Dirty Tricks’
While Grimes wasted no time disassociating herself from Nazism, her ex remains unbothered by the backlash. Musk even took to X to slam his critics for overreacting to his alleged controversial gesture. “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired,” he wrote. Alongside the tweet was a screenshot of Musk’s previous post, where he predicted the Democrats would attack him with their “dirty tricks campaign.”
Although Musk downplays the situation, he couldn’t help but raise eyebrows when he made the stiff arm gesture on inauguration day. While speaking at Trump’s rally at Capital One Arena, the Space X founder placed his right hand over his heart and then thrust a stiff arm in the air. He repeated the gesture numerous times while facing different directions of the arena.
It didn’t take long for the Internet conspiracy theories to liken Musk’s gesture to the Nazi “Seig Heil” salute. Angry fans have since threatened to boycott X and other of the billionaire’s companies, but he clearly remains unfazed.
