A disturbing video is going viral on Reddit of a racist male Karen verbally and physically attacking a man in a Costco in Austin, Texas. The short clip shows the man commit a clear racially-motivated attack, berating the person filming before seemingly smashing their phone out of their hands.
The incident takes place in a Costco in Austin, Texas. According to the person who filmed the clip, he and his wife were first insulted by the man while waiting to park their car. Allegedly, the man called the husband and wife, of Asian ethnicity, “morons and a Chinese piece of s***.”
Apparently, the clip takes place when the racist male Karen sees the couple again inside the Costco store. The poster states he started filming on seeing the man again. In the video, at first the male Karen holds his phone up while talking, as if himself filming. Without making eye contact, he says, “You would think you people would be happier since we let you into the country and you stole our intellectual property.” The first part of his remark clearly illustrates the man’s racist viewpoint. It’s unclear precisely what he’s referring to by “stealing intellectual property,” but it’s evidently another slight.
As the male Karen goes to walk off, the recorder follows. This angers the man, who, bizarrely, demands, “don’t hassle me.” As one Redditor pointed out, it’s ironic that the man is complaining about being hassled after launching such a withering verbal attack.
Unfortunately, the “absolutely gross” incident doesn’t remain solely verbal. The recorder follows the male Karen, irritating him. After claiming that he’s, “being harassed here,” he warns the man filming that he’ll knock his phone out of his hand. Incredibly, he does just that. The clip ends with the phone smashed away.
The disturbing clip shows just how openly some people launch into racist tirades. The original poster states that he’s “not even Chinese” and has a PhD degree. Some Redditors commented that the re-election of President Trump has emboldened such racist people. The reality is such opinionated individuals have always existed and delighted in insulting others. However, some good may come out of this. The poster reportedly identified the man and intends to press charges. We can only hope the male Karen gets what he deserves for the racist harassment.
