When we think of Elektra, the stunning assassin portrayed by Jennifer Garner comes to mind, right? But Brie Larson is shifting our focus from a sexy heroine to her role in a Greek tragedy by Sophocles. The highly anticipated play, with performances starting on Jan. 13, 2025, at the Theatre Royal Brighton and showings continuing from Jan. 24 to April 12 at Duke of York’s Theatre in London, has been met with great excitement. It also shows an entirely different side to Larson, whom most fans know and love thanks to her role in Captain Marvel and The Marvels.
And it seems that not everyone was ready for the transformation that Larson would undergo for the role. The actress recently posted a video of herself discussing her performance on Instagram for her 6.8 million fans. She looks noticeably different in it as her blonde locks have been chopped off in favor of a short buzz cut (although the haircut does really bring out her eyes). Her clip intended to show fans an inside look into the making of Elektra the play. This includes showing the rehearsal space and the work she and the crew have put into the show. “I think our process has been really unique,” Larson told the camera before further discussing the topic.

She also shared her thoughts in the accompanying caption, referring to the play as “the most special and energizing time.” She continued, “Made this video to give a taste of what the last few months have been for me as we prepare for our West End debut. I had never been in rigorous rehearsal process, and the play we created is wholly unique. Working with this incredible team of cast and creatives has changed my life! We built this show together and love performing it. We are a lucky bunch!”
Although Larson’s work on the play shows her versatility as an actress and those who see her take to the stage will likely be impressed, fans were not ready for the physical transformation she would undertake. Some people have remarked on the differences in her appearance with crying face emojis and comments about her hair. “Your hair is gone,” a comment reads. “Why you cut your beautyfull Hair?“ a reaction reads. She has also been called a “boy,” and another comment question is, “Who’s this guy?”
We get it; not everyone has embraced the change, but the focus should be less on Larson’s appearance and more on the impressive steps she has taken in her career. Thankfully, some fans do recognize this, and there has been praise in the comment section for Larson making a smart career move.
