In a recent interview, the Legally Blonde actress revealed she once roasted a famous friend during a speech. While she meant no harm by it, the unnamed celebrity was apparently so offended that she cut ties with Witherspoon. After fans began speculating she was talking about Winslet, an insider claimed the Titanic star is allegedly “furious” she’s been dragged into this whole mess.
The Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet Drama Takes A Turn
An insider told RadarOnline that Kate Winslet “doesn’t need the unwanted attention” caused by Reese Witherspoon. Although it may be true that the Big Little Lies actress once “fumbled their friendship” with her speech, Winslet wouldn’t hold it against Witherspoon forever. “Kate isn’t the type to cut ties over something like that,” the source said.
The insider added that the real reason Winslet hasn’t talked to Witherspoon much over the years is because she was too busy. “[She] didn’t have the time to invest in the friendship,” they said, clarifying that Winslet has “no grudges.”
Since she had already put everything between them in the past, Kate Winslet is supposedly “shocked” Witherspoon would revive their drama, especially so publicly. The Blackbird star doesn’t appreciate being in the spotlight for something so shallow. “Those close to her think Reese played the ‘mean girl’ card, fully aware that people would be sleuthing to find out who the unnamed star is,” the insider said.
Was It Just A Misunderstanding?
The drama between the pair began last month when Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell interviewed each other for People. During their conversation, Witherspoon recalled a speech she gave that was so awkward it still “haunts her” to this day. She said an actress once asked her to present her an award during a big ceremony. Witherspoon assumed it would be okay for her to make some jokes about her friend during her speech. She thought her roast was funny, however, the unnamed celebrity felt it was inappropriate. Unfortunately, the situation cost them their friendship.
Of course, fans were curious to find out who Witherspoon was talking about. They did some digging based on clues given by the actress and came to the conclusion she was referencing Kate Winslet. They thought the awkward speech happened during the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards, which both stars attended.
Shortly after the theory went viral, Witherspoon took to Instagram to deny there being any drama between her and Winslet. She said the two are “good friends” and “never had any falling out.” In fact, Witherspoon talked to Winslet about the rumors and said they both found it hilarious. “We laughed about this stupidity,” she said. “Please do not believe the internet.”
That didn’t stop the rumors from continuing to spread anyway. If she wasn’t talking about Winslet, then who else could it be? Fans haven’t come up with anyone else.
