Diddy‘s legal troubles just took another turn as one of his attorneys filed to withdraw from his federal case. With just three months before the trial, critics are already predicting the outcome of the latest withdrawal. On February 21, 2025, Anthony Ricco files a motion to withdraw from representing the rapper, citing undisclosed reasons. While a lawyer’s departure is not uncommon in high-profile cases, the timing raises questions about the strength of Diddy’s defense strategy. Although not much reason was given for the sudden departure, however, per TMZ, the lawyer’s filing partly reads:

“Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice.”

The move follows a series of legal setbacks that have left the music mogul increasingly isolated. Ricco’s exit could signal deeper issues within the rapper’s legal team, potentially involving disputes over strategy, evidence, or even payment. Losing a key attorney so close to trial could force Diddy to restructure his defense, which can take valuable time and shift momentum in the prosecution’s favor. Nevertheless, sources close to the case claim there is “no panic.”

As soon as the headline hit social media, observers quickly took to X to share their take on the new development. The embattled rapper, who has not been short of criticism, faced even more bashing following the loss of one of his reps. One commenter who seem to have been following the case declared, “Diddy is not coming out of this. He can’t.” Shortly after that declaration, the same user shares another seemingly sarcastic post that reads, “Who’s gonna vouch for our poor Diddy.”

Another X user writes a question that is probably on the mind of the entire hiphop world, “Is diddy gonna beat the cases?” while another commenter gives an answer that reads, “No diddy done.” Diddy has been embroiled in multiple legal battles, with allegations of severe criminal accusations. The case in question, which is set to go to trial in three months, has drawn national attention. It is a case of high stakes and involves federal prosecutors who rarely bring charges unless they have a strong case. According to insiders, some of the father-of-seven’s closest associates have begun to distance themselves.

We reported that the media mogul filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal. The suit includes NBC’s streaming service Peacock, and production company Ample Entertainment. The lawsuit was submitted in New York on February 12, 2025. It alleges that the documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy falsely and maliciously accuses the rapper of serious crimes. According to the documents obtained, the accusations include serial murder and sex trafficking.

The documentary features claims from Al B. Sure and Rodney Jones. Rodney previously filed a lawsuit against Diddy. These allegations suggest Diddy’s involvement in various criminal activities, including the death of his ex-partner, Kim Porter. The music mogul’s lawsuit emphasizes that Porter’s death in 2018 was due to natural causes. The filing also asserts that there is no evidence of foul play. In response to the documentary’s release, Diddy’s legal team argues that the film relies on unverified accusations and sensational narratives. They are therefore seeking $100 million in damages for the alleged defamation.

Will the dropping out of Diddy’s lawyer make any difference when the trial eventually starts?
