It seems no one was more surprised about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift‘s relationship than Jason Kelce. The former Philadelphia Eagles star recently opened up about the moment he discovered his brother was dating the famous singer. He admitted he was so shocked that he almost didn’t believe it.
Jason Kelce Shares His Honest Thoughts About Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Relationship
Jason Kelce shared the story while joining Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson for the latest episode of their podcast, The Steam Room. At one point during the show, Johnson pressed Jason about the beginning of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship. The retired football player said he was surprised to learn that his brother had successfully won over the pop star after initially shooting his shot with her in July 2023. “I remember the first time he said he was hanging out with her,” Jason began. “I remember just being like, ‘Are you kidding me? You’re hanging out with Taylor Swift?'”
Jason said hearing the two were dating was “insane.” However, he couldn’t be happier for Travis. “That’s awesome for you,” Jason remembered telling the Kansas City Chiefs star during their conversation.
He could tell Travis was serious about Taylor. “What felt different was just the way he talks about her and talked about her from the moment he was with her,” Jason Kelce said. “You could tell how much he really, really liked her right from the get go.”
Behind Their Love Story
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship timeline started in the summer of 2023. After the NFL player attended one of the singer’s Eras Tour concerts that July, he revealed on his and his brother’s New Heights podcast that he tried giving Taylor his phone number before the show. However, his plan failed. Travis thought he would get the opportunity to ask out Taylor backstage. Since she had to save her voice for the concert, they couldn’t meet.
While that didn’t work, Travis’ story about the incident successfully caught Taylor’s attention and led the pair to start talking. By September 2023, the two had officially become a couple. Although they told their friends and family about their relationship weeks before going public together, Jason Kelce didn’t get to meet Taylor until much later.
During a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Jason’s wife, Kylie, confirmed Travis introduced Taylor to them in January 2024. The meeting happened during a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Why did it take so long? Kylie explained they were all just too “busy” to get together sooner. Since there was a simple reason behind them meeting late, the mother of three found it “silly” fans thought she was purposely “avoiding” Taylor for months.
Thankfully, the rumors of a feud between the two women have disappeared as Travis and Taylor have gotten more serious. Rumor has it the couple might even get engaged. If it’s true, Jason Kelce may be calling Taylor Swift his “sister-in-law” soon.
