Gwyneth Paltrow comes under fire after appearing to shade Meghan Markle in a cooking video amid the apparent flop of the duchess’ Netflix show. The Duchess of Sussex cast a wild card in her quest for Hollywood stardom with the release of her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan, as part of her multi-year deal with the streaming giant. However, despite the initial hype leading up to its release, the cooking show performed somewhat disappointingly in terms of numbers, reaching just over 500,000 households as against the record-breaking numbers her initial docuseries, Harry & Meghan garnered.
Many have attributed this “flop” to Meghan Markle’s lack of originality, accusing her of mimicking lifestyle OG’s like Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart. Paltrow appeared to play on this comparison in a recent social media post. Taking to social media on Sunday, the 52-year-old shared a video showing her making breakfast in her pajamas, flaunting her natural face and messy hair unapologetically as she danced around the kitchen.
Gwyneth Paltrow Seemingly Parodies Meghan Markle in Cooking Clip
The video featured the background song,This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” which was largely used in some promotional clips for Markle’s Netflix cooking show. This, coupled with her dance moves and the showcasing of her baking process quickly drew comparisons to the duchess’ show. Ultimately, many fans accused Gwyneth Paltrow of parodying Meghan Markle, taking time to pinpoint all the supposed flaws in Markle’s lifestyle show which Paltrow’s social media clip appeared to spruce up, all while in her own kitchen in her lavish Montecito mansion. A fan pointed out,
“Love this, No fake house, fake kitchen, fake hair extensions, fake friends just your beautiful true self. Such a breath of fresh air.”
Another took a swipe at Meghan Markle’s fully glammed up appearance during all her cooking escapades on the Netflix show, writing sarcastically,
“Wait a minute… when you cook breakfast, you need to wear all the diamonds, a cartier and a white sweater😂😂😂.”
Meanwhile, many of Gwyneth Paltrow’s fans expressed disappointment at the lifestyle queen for coming at another woman trying to make her way in the niche. According to them, the Goop founder’s actions only proved her a far cry from the classy woman they always thought her to be. Expressing their disappointment, one Instagram user wrote,
“Is this for real, or are you enjoying throwing shade on another woman? If so, how sad.”
Another wrote,
“Ew. If you’re trying to throw shade at Meghan this is very déclassé and a not-so-micro aggression. What about welcoming someone to the lifestyle space & making room for others to thrive instead of being threatened and petty?”
A third fan divulged,
“Don’t be the mean girl. And if you didn’t intend to throw shade at her just take it down and apologize. Really couldn’t be more disappointed in a woman I once admired.”
A fourth commented,
“It’s bad enough that women are pitted against each other but it’s unforgivable when women do it themselves. I thought Gwyneth had more class but I guess she was just acting.”
Paltrow Welcomes Markle Into the Lifestyle Niche With Bold Response
Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest cooking video comes just days after the icon addressed the constant comparisons between her and vilified ex-royal Meghan Markle. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the icon divulged her take on the duchess, who lives a stone throw away in her Montecito, California neighborhood. Asked what she thought of her Montecito neighbor’s new cooking show and foray into the lifestyle niche with As Ever brand, Paltrow divulged,
“I was raised to see other women as friends not for. I think there’s always more than enough room to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
Her response at the time racked up praise from fans, who commended the actress’ classy approach to the subject, and her willingness to welcome another woman into the field wholly, without fear of getting overthrown sometime in the future. Tearing down Markle just days later unsurprisingly sparked the wrath of fans, who can’t but wonder what the businesswoman is playing at this time.
