Ben Affleck‘s days as Batman or any other superhero are over! The renowned entertainer opened up about why he would stick to directing over acting in his latest cover story for GQ. He recalled how being part of DC’s Justice League world wasn’t the right fit for him at the time he joined, saying:
“There are a number of reasons why that was a really excruciating experience. And they don’t all have to do with the simple dynamic of, say, being in a superhero movie or whatever. I am not interested in going down that particular genre again.”
Affleck stressed that he didn’t lose interest because of a bad experience. Instead, he no longer saw the appeal of starring in a superhero movie. Reflecting on his time as Batman, the actor noted there was a “misalignment of agendas, understandings, expectations.” He confessed he didn’t bring “anything particularly wonderful” to the equation at the time due to his “significant failings.”
Ben Affleck Believes He Failed as an Actor in ‘Batman’
Affleck explained that he felt like he failed as an actor, stating these emotions contributed to his “bad experience.” He noted what he brought to work daily was “a lot of unhappiness” and little positive energy. Although he didn’t cause any problems, he wasn’t a joy to be around.
“I came in, and I did my job, and I went home. But you’ve got to do a little bit better than that,” Affleck added. Despite being in a bad head space while filming Batman v Superman, the actor loved the movie. He enjoyed playing the “older, broken, damaged Bruce Wayne” and working on other DC projects like The Flash.
Despite his love for the franchise, another reason he lost interest in superhero projects was his son’s reaction. Affleck noted the movies “started to skew too old for a big part of the audience.” His son fell into this group as he was “too scared to watch the movie.” Recalling the incident, the actor said, “When I saw that, I was like, ‘Oh sh-t, we have a problem.'”
Speculations Fly Following Ben Affleck’s ‘Batman’ Confession
A fan shared a link to Affleck’s GQ interview on Reddit, sparking a heated debate on his Batman experience. Someone argued the actor left the franchise because it was challenging dealing with an incompetent director. Another Redditor agreed, claiming Affleck enjoyed working with Zack Snyder rather than Joss Whedon.
A third speculated that Affleck lost interest in Batman after filming Justice League, coupled with his issues. The fan noted the actor was so overwhelmed he scrapped his solo Batman movie to join rehab. The speculations continued with a Redditor believing Affleck hated the fact that the movie flopped despite his efforts.
Others defended Affleck, with someone stressing that he was the right choice for an older Batman. However, his acting was overshadowed by the movie’s poor writing. “I still would have liked to see his solo version of Batman that fell through,” a fan lamented. Another supporter proudly labeled Affelck “the best Batman” in their book.
Besides addressing his Batman experience, Affleck cleared the air on the FBI’s visit to his Brentwood home. We covered the story, reporting the actor claimed he was not investigated over a drone crash. Initial reports speculated the actor was connected to a drone that crashed into a firefighter jet during the LA wildfires.
Contrary to sources’ claims, the feds visited Ben Affleck’s home over a break-in at a federal official’s home in the neighborhood.
