Kanye ‘Ye’ West‘s Nazi support is not enough to sway a German singer from the consequences of his antisemitic views. The controversial rapper may have shrugged off the online backlash; however, Alice Merton is a different story. The artist filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Ye in U.S. federal court on Tuesday, March 25.
Merton slammed the rapper for using an “unauthorized sample” of her song Blindside. She recorded the track in 2022 and first learned of the illegal sampling in December 2023. Ye sampled her song on Gun to My Head, which featured Ty Dolla $ign and Kid Cudi. However, he didn’t ask for permission to do so until February 2024.
Merton, per her lawsuit, noted Ye indirectly requested to use her song through BMG Rights Management. However, she rejected the offer, prompting the company to ask why via email. The singer’s response, per TMZ, partly read, “The artist’s values are contrary to our values.”

The values Merton was concerned about were Ye’s consistent antisemitic views, support for Nazis, and racist remarks. The rapper has been vocal about his love for Hitler and the Nazis, sharing numerous rants on X. Although he deleted some of his controversial comments, wiping it off didn’t change a thing in Merton’s book.
She stressed that her distaste for Ye’s behavior stemmed from her close ties to the Holocaust. Merton deeply understood the tragedy thanks to “Jewish family members who survived its horrors.” Unfortunately, the rapper wasn’t her only problem, as his fanbase bared their fangs against her.
Merton claimed she received an outpour of threats from Ye’s supporters for refusing to let him sample her song. The tides may have changed in the singer’s favor as news of her lawsuit received positive comments. Many bashed the rapper in her favor, with someone hoping she would win the copyright infringement case.

After dropping these claims and heated rants, sources noted Ye immediately felt better once he arrived in Tokyo.
However, critics refused to let Ye have peace and called him out on X. “That man is soooo psychologically damaged,” someone declared. Another agreed, dubbing the rapper an “attention seeker,” while a third noted they were “relieved” he left.
