Not only has she topped the charts with her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, but her Eras tour broke records and skyrocketed her to billionaire status. Unfortunately, Underwood may not be a fan. Sources are claiming that the two women are embattled in a secret feud, and Carrie’s been looking for ways to get under Taylor’s skin.
According to The Daily Mail, Carrie Underwood’s bad blood with Taylor Swift could stem from their political views. Back in January, the American Idol alum made headlines when she opted to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Many fans spoke out in criticism of the move. Meanwhile, others praised Underwood for her MAGA support. Of course, Swift has been very outspoken about her dislike of Trump and even threw her support behind Kamala Harris during the 2024 election.
“Some people close to Taylor think Carrie took the Trump inauguration gig to spite Taylor,” an insider revealed. “They’ve had a little bad blood in the past. Some people in the industry do think this is Carrie’s way of marking her territory as ‘Miss Americana’ as her side of the political aisle won the election.”
Carrie Underwood Throwing Shade at Taylor Swift?
Now that Underwood has taken the job as a judge on American Idol, she’s allegedly using the platform to get in little digs at Swift. Recently, a contestant wowed the judges, and Underwood couldn’t help but compare the young girl to Swift. However, it may have been a backhanded compliment, per sources. Carrie revealed that the singer had a Taylor-like quality. “She doesn’t have this giant vibrato, belty voice, but there’s something in there,” she said.
“Carrie has been waiting for the moment to throw some sublte shade, but this was not that subtle,” the informant continued. “There was no reason to compare this girl to Taylor. Carrie feels Taylor truly sold out going from country to pop.”
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Taylor Swift would be in a feud with another huge star. In the past, the singer has famously butted heads with the likes of stars such as Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Katy Perry. Early in her career, Swift was even dubbed the next Carrie Underwood. However, Underwood didn’t see it,” per Radar Online.
“I’m a little bit older than she is, and I feel like our music is completely different, and if anyone tries to make any comparisons, they really haven’t listened to either one of us,” Carrie previously said of the comparisons between her and Taylor. “She sings a little bit lighter sometimes, and it’s just a difference in our brand of country.”
