SZA and Kendrick Lamar have officially hit the road together. Over the weekend, the pair kicked off their Grand National Tour at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Mustard as their opening act. Unfortunately, their first concert didn’t go so smoothly. Apart from almost falling on stage, the “Kill Bill” singer has been accused of lip-syncing. Fans are furious at the possibility of SZA lip-syncing since they spent so much money to see her, only to leave the show feeling disappointed.
SZA Lip-Syncing Accusations Swirl Due to Viral Video
The SZA lip-syncing accusations began circulating online after fans noticed an interesting detail in a viral video of her nearly falling on stage. The clip, which has over 10 million views on TikTok, showed SZA performing “Diamond Boy (DTM)” with one of her male backup dancers. She wrapped her leg around him as part of the song’s choreography. Her partner then tried to spin her around, but couldn’t execute the move properly due to SZA’s foot getting caught behind his leg. The mishap caused the two to stumble on stage. Thankfully, they quickly recovered their balance and avoided falling entirely.
Fans were glad SZA and her dancer were able to avoid a major accident. However, they also couldn’t help but give the singer the side-eye after realizing she may have lip-synced throughout her performance. Fans noted that if SZA were singing live, it would have been obvious when she stumbled on stage and momentarily faltered with her vocals. Since the track continued perfectly without pauses or audible reactions from her after almost falling, they accused her of relying too heavily on a backtrack.
“Baby that mic is OFF,” one person said. “Lord what happened to SINGERS?” another fan asked. “I knew she didn’t sing live,” read another comment.
Fans are disappointed at the possibility of SZA lip-syncing. They paid hundreds of dollars to see her perform live. So, they feel ripped off if all they got from her was a backtrack. They began claiming that SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s tour “wasn’t worth the money.”
Fans Are Getting Deja Vu
This wouldn’t be the first time SZA got accused of lip-syncing. She was involved in a similar controversy in February. During the 2025 Super Bowl, Lamar brought out SZA to perform their songs “luther” and “All the Stars” together. Fans thought the audio may have been pre-recorded since SZA’s vocals sounded too much like the official tracks. There were also instances where they felt the music didn’t match her lips.
SZA and Kendrick Lamar are long-time collaborators, which is why so many were excited to hear they would be touring together. Their Grand National Tour is in support of Lamar’s sixth album, GNX, as well as SZA’s first reissue album, Lana.
