The clash between Palestinian and Israelis have been going on for decades, and recent events made each side’s supporters face each other. Sometimes, these meetings end up being peaceful. Most of the time, they are bloody. In a shocking event, a New York woman was chased and attacked by about 100 Orthodox Jewish men. They believed that she was one of the protesting against Israel’s far-right security minister. The clash that took place between pro-Palestinian activists and Orthodox Jewish men ended up harming bystanders as well. The New York woman described the terrifying experience she went through, and people were left in shock.
Speaking to The Associated Press, the New York woman detailed what happened to her. After hearing the noise near her house, the woman decided to go over and investigate. It was then that she decided to cover her face with a scarf so that she doesn’t get filmed. The woman told the publication:
“As soon as I pulled up my scarf, a group of 100 men came over immediately and encircled me. They were shouting at me, threatening to rape me, chanting ‘death to Arabs.’ I thought the police would protect me from the mob, but they did nothing to intervene.”
What Happens Next?
The New York woman’s shocking experience didn’t stop at that. An officer tried to help her, but the 100 men kept chasing the two of them. It wasn’t just a terrible experience mentally, but physically as well. The men started kicking her and one even threw a traffic cone at her head. Totally unacceptable. It was after a while that the New York woman and the police officer got into a police car. She told The Associated Press that she had bruises and was affected mentally as well; I can definitely understand that.
This unfortunate event happened near the headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch. A Chabad-Lubavitch spokesperson denounced both the mob that chased the New York woman and the Pro-Palestine protestors. “We condemn the crude language and violence of the small breakaway group of young people; such actions are entirely unacceptable and wholly antithetical to the Torah’s values. The fact that a possibly uninvolved bystander got pulled into the melee further underscores the point,” he said. So if she was involved in the protests, it would have been okay to chase her? It’s insane that the police haven’t charged anyone yet in regard to this incident.
People Reacting to the New York Woman’s Incident
People were rightly left in shock at what the New York woman went through. “Absolutely nuts,” one person wrote as they quoted some of the details the woman shared. Another replied saying, “Those men had to protect themselves from her, she could have been Hamas! Or maybe the people spreading terror are the actual terrorists.” I definitely agree with that. Someone was wondering what would have happened if the police officer wasn’t there. “Holy s**t after all of that she was just an innocent bystander? Imagine if that cop wasn’t there,” they wrote. Again, even if she was involved in the protests, what happened wasn’t acceptable. A Redditor had the same thought as they said, “It’s not like this would have been OK if it were actually the protester. I hope this goes without saying, but imma say it.”
In another Reddit post, a video showed what the woman went through. You can clearly see the 100 men who has nothing better to do other than chase an innocent woman. Someone claimed that if it was an Israeli person who was attacked like this, the news wouldn’t have stopped talking about it. “If this were the other way around, then it would be world wide news,” they wrote. Someone else said, “Committing battery in front of Police with zero repercussions. Meanwhile peaceful protestors get maced and beaten for existing.” It’s insane that what happened to the New York woman happened in the first place. I hope she will be able to recover from this.
