Imagine making up an entire bill about something that sounds like a conspiracy theory, and you annoy anyone who will listen about it, only for you to not even be able to provide examples? Well, a Texas bill legislator who wanted to ban furries in school can’t come up with any examples. Rep. Stan Gerdes, the Texas bill legislator, wants to ban what he calls “non-human behavior” in public schools. This includes the use of litter boxes and wearing animal accessories; who told him this was even happening? People found that this bill was just a way to distract people from the political climate in America at this moment.

Gerdes claimed that there were reports of a “furry-related incident” at a Smithville ISD school. This week, the Texas bill legislator claimed that he called the school’s superintendent and that the conversation was “extremely concerning.” According to Fox 4 News, Gerdes then said, “I was informed that this is happening in districts across the state, and they do not have tools to prohibit these types of distractions.”

What Happens Next?

Gerdes’ claims were quickly debunked by the school district. They said:

“At this time, the District has no concerns related to students behaving as anything but typical children. Rep. Gerdes contacted Superintendent Cheryl Burns to ask if there were any litter boxes for students on District campuses. Burns informed Rep. Gerdes that there were not, but as a courtesy to Rep. Gerdes, Mrs. Burns made the extra effort to walk the campus to confirm that there were no litter boxes.”

To make matters worse the Texas bill legislator couldn’t provide any confirmed examples of students actually using litter boxes. He made a statement about why he is focusing on this. “We just want to help them have the tools to get some of the distractions out of the classroom.”The only distraction here is the fact that he has an entire bill about something that isn’t happening.

People found the entire situation to be ridiculous, and they even mocked the Texas bill legislator for his claims. One person wrote, “No shit. It’s a side show so we’ll stop talking about how Abbott is trying to shove vouchers down our throats AGAIN.” Another person hinted that the Texas bill legislator’s conspiracy theory makes Texas a perfect place for those obsessed with conspiracy theories. “Welcome to Texas. No abortions. No fluoride,” they wrote, “No furries. Conspiracy theorist dude’s idea of heaven.”

One Redditor came after pastors and accused them of sex crimes. “right.. as opposed to banning Pastors, Youth Preachers, and megachurch leaders from school – you know, folks who are actually regularly caught in sex crimes with kids,” they wrote. Another replied and said, “I’d definitely trust a furry with a kid more than a religious leader.” If I had kids, I would also trust them with a furry instead of leaving them in the same room with the Texas bill legislator.
