However, it seems that things could be even messier than fans originally believed. A new report suggests that Lively’s lawyers tried to blackmail Swift into publicly supporting the actress, threatening to expose private messages if she didn’t comply.
According to The Daily Mail, Blake Lively’s team allegedly threatened to leak embarrassing personal text messages from Taylor Swift if the pop star didn’t agree to show public support for Lively amid her lawsuit with Justin Baldoni.
This week, Baldoni’s lawyers filed a legal letter in response to Swift being subpoenaed in the lawsuit. In the filing, it was claimed that Lively had requested that the singer’s subpoena be dropped. It also alleged that the actress attempted to pressure Swift into issuing a public statement backing her in the drama.
In the letter to the judge, Baldoni’s legal team claimed that Lively’s actions related to “witness tampering and evidence spoliation.” The lawyers also claimed that Taylor’s team responded to “at least one” of the threats with “written communication,” which Baldoni is now trying to obtain for his case. “They would evidence an attempt to intimidate and coerce a percipient witness in this litigation,” the filing suggests.
Did Blake Lively’s Team Try To Blackmail Taylor Swift?
After the allegations that Blake Lively and her team tried to extort Taylor Swift into public support, the actress’ lawyers spoke out, denying the claims. In a statement shared with Variety, Lively’s team called the accusations “categorically false” and “cowardly.”
“This is what we have come to expect from the Wayfarer parties’ lawyers, who appear to love nothing more than shooting first, without any evidence, and with no care for the people they are harming in the process,” attorney Michael Gottlieb said. “We will imminently file motions with the court to hold these attorneys accountable for their misconduct here.”
