Prince Harry draws a step closer to his royal family as rumors of an impending divorce from Meghan Markle heighten. Harry and Meghan’s rift with the royal family has soured even further since their first public swipe at the monarchy five years back. While the duo has cut down on publicly throwing dirt on the royals, their actions have somehow conflicted with those of the royal family, often overshadowing the work of the monarchy, intentionally or otherwise.
Prince Harry’s highly publicized visit to Angola, where he once rehashed his late mom, Princess Diana’s iconic minefield walk, was reportedly a major tipping point for the royal family. The exiled prince embarked on his Angola tour earlier this month, meeting with the countryโs president to discuss demining efforts nearly three decades after Princess Diana completed the minefield walk in the Southwestern African nation to advocate for landmine clearance.
Prince Harry’s Agreement With The Royal Family

Photos of Prince Harry recreating the iconic minefield walk in Huambo, Angola, in September 2019, alongside snaps of Princess Diana walking the minefield 28 years ago, flooded the tabloids. This wide coverage ultimately upstaged the 78th birthday of King Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, from the front pages. To avoid such occurrences, the royal family has reached some form of peace treaty with Prince Harry, one that his wife may frown upon.
According to insiders, both parties reached an agreement this month to have Prince Harry share his official diary of engagements with the royal family. They believe this move would further diffuse the tension between the Sussexes and the British royals.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, one source described this compromise as a “significant milestone” in the quest for a royal reconciliation. Explaining how this new arrangement would favor both parties, the insider noted that prior to the agreement, Harry and Meghan Markle relished “conflicts of interest or clashes of publicity” and even encouraged it. However, Prince Harry’s new arrangement with the royal family shows the duke has reevaluated his way of thinking, making conflict resolution a major goal. The source divulged,
“The tone is now all about deconflicting with his family. That’s why his household agreed to draw up a “grid” of his activities and share them with Buckingham Palace and, by extension, Kensington Palace.”
This royal agreement between Prince Harry and the palace follows the so-called royal “peace summit” between the Sussexes’ representatives and King Charles’ representatives. Leaked photos of the secret meeting surfaced this month, showing the reps in talks at the Royal Over-Seas League, a private members-only club in London. Prior to the leak, Charles reportedly kept this meeting from his older son, Prince William, to mitigate the conflict. Hence, the prince was left furious after finding out via the press.
Meghan Markle’s Rebrand Threatens Royal Reconciliation
Things seem to have simmered down within the royal enclave, as the supposed endgame of the meeting works in William’s favor as well. While Harry remains opposed to “being controlled by the royal machinery,” his agreement with his family extends to his brother William, who would also be briefed on Harry’s schedule. The only possible stumbling block to this agreement is Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
The Duchess of Sussex has channeled her focus to boosting her showbiz and entrepreneurial career. She hard-launched her online presence this year with two functional Instagram accounts, where she shares glimpses into her life in California, as well as promotional efforts for her As Ever brand. This hard launch has notably dominated the headlines, noticeably competing with the royal family’s media coverage. With her brand routinely releasing new products since taking off, coupled with the various controversies surrounding it, getting Meghan to slow down, in favor of the British royals, would be a hassle, given her history of royal defiance.
Hence, Harry’s bid to reach an agreement with the royal family is a major gamble for the exiled Prince. While Prince Harry appears to stick his neck out for his wife with this latest development, some may argue that this step may, in fact, be the most obvious sign of their impending divorce.
Is Prince Harry divorcing Meghan Markle?
Royal experts have previously suggested a divorce from Meghan Markle remains the only way the royal family would permit Prince Harry’s royal return. Journalist Dan Wutton recently claimed that the prince was open to kicking Meghan aside to boost his chances of a royal reconciliation. Many have also alluded to the supposed divorce plans as the reason behind the dad-of-two’s solo trip to Angola without his wife.
Although the couple has settled into life in California, it hasn’t exactly been the bed of roses they envisioned post-royal exit. Aside from the constant calls for their divorce, the duo has faced major setbacks in their entrepreneurial and showbiz pursuits, making the less critical life they once had within the royal fold seem like a distant past.
