Sydney Sweeney has been blasted on social media as she steps out in a new look amid her ongoing American Eagle drama. The actress, 27, made late July headlines for debuting her ambassador status with the clothing label, but things haven’t gone too well for her since.
At the end of last weekend, Sydney attended the Los Angeles premiere of her new Americana movie, where she modeled a plunging ball gown that displayed her famous figure. While some commented on Sydney’s style, many lashed out over her American Eagle controversy, one kicking off with the “Sydney has good jeans” slogan and Sydney saying that she has “good genes” in one of the promo videos. The White Lotus star has, alongside American Eagle, been heavily criticized for saying she has great “genes” as a white, blonde woman, with the apparel label since forced to make a statement to defend its campaign. In these photos, fans asked for Sweeney to be canceled, with one user gaining likes for calling her “painfully mediocre.”

Looking stylish in a pale, lemon-yellow dress with a stitched, corset-like bodice, Sydney channeled fairytale vibes in her eye-popping gown.
Flashing her curves and trim waistline while on the red carpet, the Bai Drinks ambassador added a long tulle skirt and heels, completing her look with a matching yellow headband. Sydney wore her famous blonde locks down, adding matte makeup that highlighted her features. The gallery, posted by Just Jared on Instagram, also included costars Halsey and Simon Rex.
Fans Saying ‘Cancel’ Her Amid Global PR Disaster
Over 170 fans agreed when a user asked: “Can we all just please cancel Sydney Sweeney?”
Noting the recent reveal that Sydney leans toward all things red, another wrote: “Republican Barbie not in her ‘juheans.'” A third called the Hollywood star “painfully mediocre.” Sydney’s promo videos mostly showed her in American Eagle jeans, including an Instagram video of her in a white tank and jeans. Fans were more outraged by her words, though.
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue,” Sydney says.
Fans on social media have interpreted the statement as racist, with some even throwing out white supremacy allegations. Sydney has so far remained silent on the matter, although American Eagle has said: “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way.”
Sydney is also signed to brands including Miu Miu, Armani Beauty, Hey Dude, and Dr. Squatch.
