If there is one thing anyone would be looking for when staying at their home, it is to be safe. You don’t imagine that someday someone would break into your house, change the locks, and claim that this is their house now. This is what happened with an Ohio homeowner when a group of squatters took over her house. According to her, the group included a woman, her sister, her boyfriend, and her dogs. The homeowner shared how she contacted the police twice to help her get her house back. The police’s response? They told her to pay the squatters $15,000 to make them leave. This is just unbelievable. Thankfully, the third time she called the police, the officers helped her without asking her to pay any money.

When my house was stolen & 2 different officers told me to pay them $15,000 to get out of my house – But third time is a charm SGT Riviera for the win 🏆 #californiacity #stealinghouses #squatters #police @

The Ohio woman filmed a video as the new police officers were confronting one of the squatters. “This is not your house. You are essentially stealing a house,” the officer says. She presents him with papers, but he tells her that this is fraud as well. In another video, the squatter is being arrested for her actions. The officer tells her, as he handcuffs her, that she is under arrest for burglary, potentially fraud, and false information to a police officer. What made it clearer that she was lying about her claims that she owns the house is the fact that the officer kept asking her questions to which she had no answer.

The Ohio homeowner was also very thankful in the video. In fact, she was way too thankful because she kept saying thank you despite one of the officers asking her to calm down. It’s definitely the emotions. The police presented her with the option to “press charges or allow them [the squatters] the opportunity to get all their stuff and leave.” It seems like the woman chose to press charges, which is definitely her right. Squatters shouldn’t be capable of doing this. Plus, the police that was called at the beginning should have never asked her to pay money to get her house back.

People Reacting to the Ohio Homeowner Getting Her House Back

People were happy that the Ohio woman managed to get her house back. After all, anyone could find themselves in that situation one day. Advice also started pouring in as someone said, “now get all the locks changed.” Another person said, “You should probably put in an alarm system in and cameras everywhere. So ridiculous you have to go through this nonsense.” That’s good advice. Others were happy that squatters are finally facing consequences. “t’s about time the squatters have consequences‼” one person wrote. Someone else shared their own story where they ended up paying their squatters to leave. “This needs to go viral as a warning to all squatters. I got lucky and only paid my squatter $800 to get out 7 years ago,” they wrote. Thankfully, this didn’t happen here.

Some people were also kind of upset by how the Ohio owner kept talking despite the police asking her to stay quiet. “You were told several times to be quiet… I think I’m more annoyed with you just watching this then I am the squatter lol but I’m glad you got your house back. That’s the most important thing,” one person wrote. Others were shocked that the police at first asked the woman to pay money. “I can’t believe they told you to pay them $15k to leave‼ I’m so glad squatters aren’t tolerated where I’m from in TN. Cops will drag them out the second you show that it’s your home.” What matters is that the house went back to its rightful owners.
