The Nintendo Direct of September 2025 had way more surprises than we expected. While we all thought we’d only get a glimpse at some first-party titles, the truth is, Nintendo brought in the big guns with well-known franchises and a few other third-party games that left many of us with our jaws on the floor. If you missed it, here are the biggest announcements from the latest Nintendo Direct.
Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Roundup
Let’s kick off with one of the most significant parts of the Nintendo Direct and one that will make everyone feel a bit old now. Mario Bros., the franchise, has reached its 40-year mark. To celebrate, there are many Mario Bros. projects on the way, including the next Mario Bros. movie, which will now take place in the Galaxy universe, and yes, the whole cast from the first film is coming back. Apart from that, we’ll get a collection of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario Tennis Fever, Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, and lastly, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. We only listed the trailer of the latter, but if you want, you can watch all the trailers right here.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gets a Release Date
After so much waiting, there is finally a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which comes accompanied by a new gameplay feature we didn’t know about. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond arrives on December 4, 2025, and by the looks of it, there will be an open-world portion to the game where we’ll be able to explore on a motorcycle of sorts. It’s still uncertain how deep this system will go, but it’s great to see that Samus will have another way to travel around this planet.
Pokรฉmon: Pokopia
There were a couple of snippets of Pokรฉmon news during the Nintendo Direct, and while we’ll mention them, too, we wanted to focus on a brand-new Pokรฉmon adventure. Pokรฉmon: Pokopia will put players in the morphing body of a Ditto who takes the shape of a human to build a village alongside other Pokรฉmon. The catch here is that this Ditto can learn abilities from other creatures and use them to plant things, build stuff, and more. It’s a new formula we haven’t seen before for the legendary creature collector franchise, but one that looks pretty intriguing. However, if what you want is more information for Legends: Z-A, three Mega Evolutions were revealed: Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja are all getting a Mega form in this entry.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection Is Coming in March
Despite being announced not long ago, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection now has a release date, and it isn’t that far away. The game will launch on March 13, 2026. Furthermore, we got to see some gameplay footage, showing the iconic turn-based battles with new monsters from the most recent entries, such as Rise, as well as who seems to be our new feline companion: Rudy. With a date finally set, we’ll likely get more news about this long-anticipated title.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Announced
The biggest surprise and one that wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card was Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. What makes the surprise sweet is that this seems like it’s a sequel to Three Houses, one of the best entries in the Fire Emblem series. Those with keen eyes might’ve seen a grown-up Sothis, the crest from the houses, and in terms of gameplay, there seem to be new classes and even guns, which makes this entry look even more promising. Unfortunately, there isn’t a release date for this game yet, but we know that it will arrive sometime in 2026.
