Though renting a house isn’t quite the same as owning one, it still feels amazing to have a place to call your own. Sure, the landlord technically has the final say, but at least you know that aside from them, only you and the people you allow inside are permitted to step foot on the property. It’s your space, your little slice of peace and privacy. Unfortunately, that peace can vanish quickly when you have to deal with an unreasonable landlord. For TikTok user @sydrosalee, that was exactly what happened one afternoon in Kansas. She was shocked to find her home suddenly surrounded by crowds of people. Thankfully, they weren’t there to break in or cause direct harm, but they were there to party. As it turned out, her landlord had allowed a massive tailgate party to take place right on the front yard of the house she was renting, and even on her porch.
Needless to say, she was not thrilled. The whole scene was loud and chaotic, with music blasting, people laughing, and cars parked everywhere. Though she was irritated, she knew that trying to tell an entire crowd to leave probably wouldn’t work. Still, there was no way she was going to let a group of strangers take over her porch.
As the Kansas woman approached her home, she saw a man sitting on her porch steps, comfortably parked as if he owned the place. Remaining polite despite her frustration, she asked him to move. The tailgate attendee, however, brushed her off, saying he’d leave eventually. When she pressed him again, he snapped back, cursing and saying that he’d only move once she went inside her house.
The man’s aggressive attitude caught the attention of others nearby, and soon some of the tailgaters began to back away, sensing tension. Still, the woman didn’t back down. Calm but firm, she asked why he was being so rude and unpleasant. After a brief back-and-forth, the man finally stood up and left the porch.
But even after reclaiming her steps, the Kansas woman wasn’t about to just sit inside and suffer through the rest of the party noise. If the landlord and his guests were going to turn her yard into a tailgate zone, she decided she’d add her own special touch to the mix.
Instead of blasting music, she set up her speaker and played a video full of loud, obnoxious, ear-piercing sounds, an intentionally annoying counterattack. The bizarre mix of noises echoed through the yard, and it didn’t take long for her creative protest to catch attention online.
She later posted the entire story to TikTok, and viewers were stunned by what they saw. “How is this even allowed 😭” one user asked. Others pointed out that what her landlord did might actually be against the law, considering she was the tenant with full rental rights.
“It’s illegal for your landlord to do that,” one person commented. “You should file a complaint. I had a landlord who started having all his work packages delivered to my rental, hundreds of them. One day, I came home from work and couldn’t even get into my garage because boxes were stacked everywhere. I had the delivery company come back and take them all, then told my landlord that I wouldn’t be accepting any more of his stuff. If you let them cross boundaries once, they’ll just keep doing it.”
