At this point, it’s almost as if some people are just rage-baiting others for no reason. Their goal could be to provoke strangers simply to see their reaction and get a kick out of it. For example, a woman in Palmdale, California, had to confront a man who allegedly made racist remarks toward her while she was putting oil in her car. According to her, the man approached her window and asked, “Is black people tryna be white people?” When the woman and her son reacted with shock and anger, he walked away into a nearby store as though nothing had happened.
Feeling disrespected, the woman followed him into the store to ask him to repeat what he had said while she recorded the exchange. The man brushed her off and told her to call the police. When she urged him to call the police himself, the man took out his phone and pretended to dial some numbers. However, he eventually gave up and walked away.
The woman then accused the man of targeting her because of her race. She told him that she was of mixed background and that his words were offensive, but he still insulted her further and told her to “go back to Africa.”
