Drivers are all over the place, everywhere you turn, as it seems more and more people are always occupying all the lanes and causing traffic nightmares left and right. It almost seems like the only thing guaranteed to be succession-proof if our economy keeps failing is the gas station business. Well, one Belmont, Ohio gas station had a bizarre warning for any would-be commuters in the area. It’s a wild case of use it or lose it, and your wallet will be the one paying the price.
On the midlyinteresting Reddit page, a user named Historical_Initial22 shared a picture of a truck stop gas station near the Belmont exit with a curious warning. It states, “Minimum Fueling Volume 4 Gallons, Dispensing Less May Violate Federal Law“. This made some readers and Ohio locals a bit confused, as many folks wondered how this applies to motorcycle riders. Also, some folks don’t always have the money to hit that minimum or even need to, depending on how the day is going.
One lucky savior thankfully saved the day, however, and explained what this weird potential federal law could even be. Here is what they explained.
This is related to that “CONTAINS UP TO 10% ETHANOL” sign.
Basically, if the last person to use this pump purchased E15, the hose is going to still be full of E15. If you buy just one gallon of E10, you’re getting tons of E15 mixed in from the hose – so the fuel you purchase will be MORE than 10% ethanol.
This sign is only applied to pumps that dispense E15 AND lower-ethanol fuels (E10 or E0). There are only around 200 such pumps in the country!
All gas stations also have dedicated E10/E0 pumps, so if you want just a couple gallons, you don’t have to go to a different gas station – just don’t use this mixed-fuel pump.
This led many to breathe a sigh of relief, as they weren’t in danger of violating federal law just because they didn’t have enough money. They then turned to their actual worst enemy, obnoxiously loud gas station advertisements.

So, beware, Ohio commuters, stay away from four-dollar minimums and loud gas station ads.
