Republican lawmakers are making sure that the 2025 holidays are canceled for so many American citizens. The government shutdown is threatening families who depend on SNAP benefits. Now, people are fighting back in the only ways they know possible. In fact, one Georgia woman says that “Americans need to cancel the holiday season” due to the ongoing shutdown. This has been so unfair for many struggling families across the U.S. and the devastation continues.

Cindy (@thecindynoir) posted a TikTok video instructing American families to consider “canceling” the holiday season. She shrugs and says, “Close the wallets.” Cindy goes on to instruct people to choose spending time with their families without the need for expensive food and gifts. She also said the “deals suck” in reference to Black Friday and the vast amounts of money that Americans spend during this time.

As for the children, Cindy says so many people have everything they need already. She says “they have tablets, they have toys” and that they’ll “be okay” for one year if the people boycott. If you refuse to spend money, the government and major companies will get the message. The economy can’t thrive when the government denies people the money they need to survive. As Cindy says, it doesn’t make sense for us to open our wallets during the time of the year when “corporations make the most money.” She adds, “SHUT IT DOWN!”

Unfortunately, the devastation republican lawmakers have caused is going to have a huge long-term impact on our lives. The delays in SNAP benefits means that families won’t be able to put food on the table at Thanksgiving. This will add to further stress on community food banks and families going without. Meanwhile, lawmakers will get to go have a fancy holiday dinner without even thinking twice. Luckily, companies like Aldi are thinking of families in need during these desperate times. They recently announced a $40 Thanksgiving feast that you can buy to feed 10 people in your household. Little things like that will help some families continue to afford the holidays even during these challenging times.

One commenter stated on Cindy’s video, “To be honest with you, holidays are probably going to be canceled because who’s going to be able to afford anything. Our money will go towards survival for our families and ourselves.” Another agreed with every word Cindy said, as well as the need for a major boycott. They said, “I’ve been BEGGING for this. But consumerism runs too deep and people are too programmed.” We’ll see what happens but nothing is most distressing than a family that can’t get through the holidays. Every family deserves to have a nice Thanksgiving and Christmas meal. The government obviously doesn’t agree.
