When it comes to relationships, few things hurt more than being cheated on. Trust me, I’ve been there, and I’m sure at some point in your life, you may experience that hurtful breach of trust, too. But a question that sometimes crops up is who cheats more: men or women? Well, a New York-based divorce lawyer named James Sexton weighed in with his thoughts in a recent video that’s making the rounds on social media right now, and his answer may surprise you.
The video, which is circulating on TikTok and Reddit at the moment, comes by way of LADbible, and sees the divorce lawyer answering a litany of fascinating relationship questions. Sporting a white shirt, red tie, and some rather cool tattoos on his arms, Sexton is asked the challenging question: do men or women cheat more?
“That is a great question,” explains the divorce lawyer, with a big grin on his face. “I would say, in my experience, men cheat more but women cheat better. Like, women go big or go home, you know. Men like just do dumb [expletive] a lot of the times.” With this initial explanation out of the way, the divorce lawyer then begins to clarify that not all cheating is created equal.
Going further, he explains, “And cheating is not all created the same. Because there’s a difference between a dalliance and an affair. You know, a dalliance is like, yeah, I did something stupid and I ended up having sex with this person or fooling around with this person. An affair is like a full-on thing, you know? And I think we can all agree those are different things.”
Rounding out the answer to his question, Sexton then outlines the key differences about men and women when they cheat, saying, “But men and women approach cheating differently, in my experience. And they react to cheating differently, in my experience. And I’ve said it before, although it’s not a popular thing to say out loud: when a man finds out that his wife cheated, his first question is, did you [expletive] him? When a woman finds out her husband cheated, the first question is usually, do you love her? And that says a lot about what happens in these dynamics because the question is: what does this mean to you? Does this person mean more to you than I do? Versus, has this person taken my property?“
Of course, due to the emotive nature of the topic, social media users chimed in with their own two cents on the query, with many agreeing with the divorce lawyer. Over on Reddit, one commenter wrote, “He is saying what we all know to be true.” while another chipped in with, “Women cheat better because they’re smarter, frankly. Men are more likely to go with their emotions rather than think logically about the situation which is why they cheat more, with less results.”
Elsewhere, others were surprised by the divorce lawyer’s tattoos on his arms, with one person complimenting them, penning, “Caught me in the second half with those sleeves” while another agreed, adding, “Same. They look dope. So happy when people in respected professions have visible tattoos.” However, one other netizen noted that this was just one professional’s point of view, declaring, “I think a lot of people are missing the “in my experience” part“.
