Former US vice president Kamala Harris continues to sidestep opportunities to call out Israel for its genocide of Gaza. At a Seattle, Washington book tour event, Kamala Harris was ready to greet and talk to fans about her new novel. However, peaceful protestors tried to make her just as uncomfortable as her views make so many of us. When one protestor spoke up, he was immediately grabbed by a nearby attendee, restrained, and removed from the building.
Posted by TikToker Notmetrying3, her video showed a man shouting from the stands, interrupting Kamala Harris’s talk of her book, 107 Days. The caption read: “POV: You’re watching Mamala and your veteran husband has to jump into action.” You can see the TikToker’s husband jump over a railing and grab the protester from behind. While having a hold on his waist, the protestor is removed.
According to JNS, Kamala stated, “I’m reclaiming my time” after the protestor was dealt with. However, several other protesters were recorded interrupting Kamala Harris during the same event. Unfortunately, she didn’t use that time to give a straight answer on her stance with Israel, instead calling the country’s genocide of the Palestinians a “brutality of force” during an interview with MSNBC.
Knowing that, watching a random citizen who probably had good intentions rush to be a hero is looking pretty silly. As one commenter put it: “Protests are supposed to be disruptive. It doesn’t matter if she’s not the president, she supported the idea of ICE detention centers and making immigration a tougher process than it already is. She’s a war criminal.”
However, other commenters disagreed, and felt it was a personal attack on Kamala Harris’s race. “At this point they just want to heckle a Black woman. It’s giving racism bc she’s not even holding any office position so what is the point of doing this,” which is incredibly unfair to assume. Currently holding office doesn’t matter—President Trump continued to campaign even when he wasn’t president, and it worked.
Even though so many of us would have preferred her over Trump, it’s okay to take issue with her viewpoints. If she won’t stand on showing support to Palestine, what else won’t she take a stand on?
